High fat vs high protein

#21

There’s a problem with asking the question this way, because the terms “high fat” and “high protein” aren’t defined or are defined by people trying to be critical of a keto diet. “High fat” is usually meant as “OMG that’s so high fat you’re going to die of a heart attack!” “High protein” is usually meant as “You’re going to give yourself kidney disease,” though sometimes it’s “all that ‘excess’ protein is going to turn into sugar.” All of that is B.S. Saying “moderate” sounds like you need to control and limit it, and just plays into the kidney disease/excess theory. And what is that amount anyway? Without reasonable definitions, one person’s “high protein” is another person’s “moderate.”

I much prefer to say that a healthy, very low carb diet also depends on eating adequate or sufficient protein. The general consensus is that sufficient protein is well above the US RDA, though there are people who disagree with that of course.
