“The hour of the day—when you eat and how frequently you eat—is more important than what you eat and how many calories you eat,” she noted. “Our body metabolism changes throughout the day. A slice of bread consumed at breakfast leads to a lower glucose response and is less fattening than an identical slice of bread consumed in the evening.”
High-energy breakfast promotes weight loss
Not in article:
Substituting eggs for that slice of bread does more than the timing of that bread.
Right. And I have no doubt eating times affect health and can be used to promote weight loss. I do doubt eating just anything would ever keep my insulin in check the way this article suggests, at least for the long haul.
I am MUCH more sensitive to carbs (AKA insulin resistant) in the mornings, and that sensitivity declines as the day goes on.
- By sensitivity, I mean that a slice of bread at 9am will shoot my blood glucose up to 12mmol/l (220s in US units), but the same slice of bread at 5pm will only send me into the 7s (130).
Type 1 diabetics change their insulin ratios at different times of the day to cover these variations in insulin resistance.
“Jakubowicz and her colleagues studied 11 women and 18 men who had obesity and type 2 diabetes”
I got to this, and my suspicions were confirmed. No science to back up the article. Its useless in fact. Not enough data is going to come from such a small pool of people.
Just going from 6 meals a day down to 3 would have a noticeable impact. Even more so by just leaving the carbs out completely. But what they’re doing isn’t science, its an agenda. Too many diabetics are curing themselves and they must put a stop to that, less they (dietitians and endo’s) quickly become irrelevant.
It amazes me how much crap is out there. It makes it difficult for people to see through. When I’m inundated with comments, questions about my weight loss and vitality my responses are met with quiet stares and confusion.
Why don’t humans know how to eat? I don’t see fat birds.
“What do you get when you feed the birds? Fat birds! Go spend your tuppence on fabric and string, and lets go fly a kite.” … breaks out in a Disney song
Well, I have seen a lot of fat birds. Just about any fast food parking lot. Especially the burger joints that sell french fries. I have observed first hand. Sparrows, ROUND sparrows. Look like little feathered tennis balls with wings. Many of then standing around with french fries sticking out of their beak, looking as if they were a bunch of unemployed standing around Gorky park.
Interesting, so still breakfast like a Queen, lunch like a princess, and dinner like a pauper.
K
I eat most of my calories for breakfast because I think the idea of being more insulin sensitive in the morning has some merit.
Or dogs. Except my neighbor’s who feeds the dog boiled potatoes. I feel bad for the poor thing.
Yes domestic animals are often just as confused! Like my cat haha (who though does love both broth and HWC)
Not really it should have been eat less often max 2 meals a day and get better… but they didn’t look for that…
Didn’t Fund Blog about greater insulin response to the same food in the evenings? I thought he also said he chooses to eat in the evening with his family because it is more conducive to his lifestyle. This article reads like a “breakfast- most important meal of the day” propaganda.
For breakfast, I like to eat a bagel with low fat cream cheese and a orange juice because it is healthy…LOL! Sugar is just empty calories.
Yes, and Bill Lagakos has also blogged about circadian rhythms having an effect on insulin sensitivity. The problem is, most people who say “breakfast is the most important meal of the day” are saying it for the wrong reason, and they mean you should have oatmeal and sugary shit for breakfast.
FWIW the study author mentioned is the author of a book called The Big Breakfast Diet. I was on it right before I started keto. I think I lost 10 pounds on it.
It’s this book that pushed me to start looking into diets. The book recommends low fat. You are allowed 2 servings (for example 2 tsp butter) of fat at breakfast but the rest of the time it is suggested that fat be low. I had seen enough bits and pieces that suggested that fat might not be as bad as we thought that I started looking into other options.
Incidentally, on this diet my eczema came back after being gone for decades. I think it was because she required milk (or plain yogurt which I hate) to make up 2 of the 7 protein servings at breakfast. The eczema went away again on keto. I still eat plenty of dairy products, just not milk.
You haven’t kept chickens. Many high productivity breeds are prone to getting fat.
Yes. My point is humans are perplexed as about how to eat. Of course there are fat animals. I eat parts of them everyday!
