High dairy fat diet linked to heart health
I hate it when the media changes conclusions of “could help to prevent” or “associated with” to definitive words like “improves” or “causes”. Most of these studies just show some type of relationship, not an actual process that is taking place. And these long-term studies are always observational, which have a tendency to be low reliability. What should happen is that they generate controlled, randomized studies.
There have been similar studies linking low-fat milk to obesity.
But, in both of these types of studies, I have to wonder about which is the cause and which is the effect? For example, obese people have been told for decades to avoid fat and use low-fat milk, so the low-fat dairy group will likely be the one with more health problems.
Conclusions
Long-term exposure to circulating phospholipid pentadecanoic, heptadecanoic, or trans -palmitoleic acids was not significantly associated with total mortality or incident CVD among older adults. High circulating heptadecanoic acid was inversely associated with CVD and stroke mortality and potentially associated with higher risk of non-CVD death. …More
