I’ve been low carb for 18 months, and I think your focus should be on eating right – not on whether or not you’re in ketosis at any precise moment.

On the specific issue of ketosis: neither method is super accurate, but keto stix are notoriously inaccurate. They’ll tell you if you’re definitely in ketosis, but they’ll vary depending on your level of hydration, and probably a host of other factors. So you can wake up in the morning and pee on the stick and it’ll turn purple and you’ll get very excited, but then have a few tumblers of water and you’ll probably find the colour on the (second, untouched) stick a lot less pronounced.

I haven’t had any experience with blood ketone meters, but I think Phinney refers to 0.5 to 3 mmol as optimal.

Keep calm and keto on, Michelle. You’ll get there.

Thanks Gabe😁 i had been really good I thought? But it’s guess i have to pay better attention to what a proper keto diet is… i am focused on how I eat or what i eat but sometimes I guess portion size counts too. I did read something somewhere that A .1 in keto blood measuring is low end keto, but i will keep it going

If you’re new to this, then just cutting sugar and starches out of your diet will be enough to see some good results in a month or 6 weeks. No need to be in ketosis from day one. Or ever, frankly.

If you’re diabetic, I’d be stricter, but if you’re not, I wouldn’t sweat it too much. Don’t rush it. Stay calm, avoid sugar and starches, and re-evaluate mid-winter. That’s my 2 cents.
