any of us suffer from severe insulin resistance and get a big dawn phenomenon, which skews these numbers. For example, at 5 am my BG may be 80. By 8:00 am, my BG may be up to 130, still fasted. If I wait longer and continue fasting, by 10:30, m BG will go down to 80 again. Ketones move opposite, something like 1.0, 0.6, 0.8, 1.0, respectively.
interesting. my ketones behave similar to yours but I dont think my BG moves too much
Everything moves for me. Morning resting heart rate is usually about 85, but its under 60 in the evening. Morning blood pressure is 130/90, but its 95/60 in the evening.
I’ve been keto for 3 years +/-. Fasting morning FBG is anywhere from 65-85 (though normally in the mid 70’s). Ketone are generally around 3 mmol.
Six months on ketogenic diet…
Morning BG: 102 with a standard deviation of 9.25 using Bayer Contour Next; about 7 points less w/ nearly identical standard deviation using keto mojo,
Morning BK: 1.6 with a standard deviation of 0.97; this morning’s reading was 2.6.
With regard to changes in BG throughout the day, this is what I recorded yesterday, which are probably the most readings that I’ve taken in a single day; I wanted to see what my blood sugar and blood ketones did before and after doing two types of exercise:
10:10: BG=100, BK=2.0
12:14: BG=99, BK=1.0
13:15: BG=102, BK=0.9
13:41: BG=133, BK=0.7 - after 10 min kettlebell workout
14:14: BG=107, BK=0.8 - about 1/2 hour after KB workout
14:43: BG=99, BK=0.8 - about one hour after KB workout
15:13: BG=100, BK=0.7 - about 30 mins prior to starting 10 mile hike
20:48: BG=94, BK=2.2 - about an hour after finishing hike
23:29: BG=109, BK=0.7 - about 1.5 hours after eating; just one meal on this day
I used to get the dawn phenomenon with BG around 5.1 (I don’t have diabetes) but since cutting out meat I regularly get 4.3-4.8. The only exception is peanut butter as that will give me readings of 5.6 or 5.7. I am not talking about large quantities either.
