Here's a Sugar Free Alternative to Plain Water

(DeleteMyAccountPlease) #1

I really don’t care for plain water unless I’m very hot and have been working in the yard.

However, all waters I’ve looked at either contain sugar, sucralose, or are too pricey, etc…

Just stumbled on this possible gem at Walmart: https://goo.gl/fPKxGk

If link doesn’t work, search Walmart for: 24 Bottles) vitaminwater zero squeezed, Lemonade,

Online it doesn’t show the back label (bad!), but the sugar that’s in it is Erythritol. It’s NOT carbonated, which is wonderful; for me anyways.

At first, you’ll notice it’s not as sweet as other drinks. After a week of drinking it and your taste buds adapt, you’ll think it’s plenty sweet; or at least I did. It’s pretty affordable and should be great for our Keto diets.

Looking forward to seeing if anyone finds a reason not to drink this stuff. Seems good to me, but I’ll throw it out too if someone can show why it’s not good for KETO consumption.

I guess it depends on what part of the U.S. you’re in, but I used to get these a lot…similar stuff only Kroger brand. Several varieties that are all pretty tasty. Just got a bit pricey after a while cause I’d go through them pretty quick.

Yeah, my sweetness threshold definitely decreased.

I don’t even consider drinking soda anymore. I think that level of sweetness would kill me.

I drink Seltzer water if I want some zip in what I’m drinking.

I really like the Perrier flavored mineral sparkling water (not the ones flavored with juice.) No sweeteners at all which i try to minimize. I’ve tried other carbonated drinks similar to this but not a big fan.

REVERSE OSMOSIS WATER, LESS THAN 1% OF: ERYTHRITOL, CITRIC ACID, CALCIUM PHOSPHATE, MAGNESIUM LACTATE AND CALCIUM LACTATE AND POTASSIUM PHOSPHATE (ELECTROLYTE SOURCES), GUM ACACIA, PHOSPHORIC ACID, VITAMIN C (ASCORBIC ACID), STEVIA LEAF EXTRACT, NATURAL FLAVORS, ZINC GLUCONATE, GLYCEROL ESTER OF ROSIN, VITAMIN B5 ( …

Jason Fung says in his book The Obesity Code that Despite having a minimal effect on blood sugars, both aspartame and stevia raised insulin levels even higher than table sugar.

So if high insulin is something we are trying to avoid, drinking this all day long might complicate that goal. This is the N=31 study JF refers to and one of the graphs:

Mineral Water as opposed regular water which replaces what your flushing out the way God intended it, you could add a sweetener? Personally I try to stay away from artificial sweeteners of any kind, they are just bad news to your gut bugs!

Naturally Alkalizing Mineral Stones

Example:

Note: This is not the same kind of alkaline water that is zapped with electrical current and messes with your bodies PH balance!

I drink powerade zero, it has sucralose (i’m wondering if that’s bad) but I will give the item you suggested a try! thanks for sharing.

I just drink water or green tea with lemon and salt, and then when I feel fancy I’ll have a flavored seltzer. There’s a grapefruit one that tastes like real soda to me now that I’ve lost my sweet tooth. :woman_shrugging:

That drink has 17 carbs per bottle.

I used to really hate drinking plain water. When I realized diet coke was keeping me fat, I dropped it altogether, bought a soda stream seltzer maker, and made my own sparkling water. It get’s a little expensive but still cheaper than diet coke.

A few months ago, I installed a reverse osmosis filter for about $250. I installed it myself and it took about 30 mins because it was so easy to do even for a noob like me. The last stage of the process adds healthy minerals back in. Wow, what a difference. Now I like drinking plain water.

I barely even use the seltzer maker anymore. :grinning:

I like the sparkling ice drinks, but I limit the number that I have a week; however, they are a good substitute in alcoholic cocktails. We drink a lot more unsweetened tea, especially fruity herbal tea; some flavors (cherry, berry, peach) are like drinking Kool-aid without sugar. And during the day, I like coffee.

I went to Florida for December and January visiting my best friend. She started keto while I was there and she likes her alcohol. I got her to try some different mixers, diet tonic water, diet soda, Cuervo diet margarita mix and Ice sodas. So with all that crap in the house I figured “I’m on vacation, Splenda Diet Coke doesn’t taste bad so why not?” So there wasn’t a scale at the house and I averaged 1-2 cans per day, sometimes 3.

Well I got home and weighed in, I had been eating keto more than 99% of my stay (a few carbage restaurant meals in two months). I had gained 8 lbs. The only thing that I can really attribute this to is the artificial sweeteners. So my diet soda consumption will be a few times a year from now on. Not a pick up at the store item but something I will reserve for when I am with people that are having drinks eating out or similar social situations. The 8 pounds came off in about 10 days but I believe that I am insulin resistant so in retrospect I was stupid for doing it. I guess that I was thinking more along the lines of BG rather than jacking up insulin production.

Me too. I bought a Soda Stream, and found a place to refill them for $7.00! (Beer Keg Seller).

I love the fizz. I will squeeze a little lemon or lime into it from time to time.

I make my own ginger extract (with water) and put a capful of that in there to make a Faux Ginger Ale. It FIZZES like Ginger Ale, and tastes like it, just without the sugar!

Artificial sweeteners are a gateway drug to sugar!
They maintain your cravings!

(Full Metal KETO AF) #17

@CaptainKirk They did not make me want to eat sugar or carbs, I just enjoyed them. I stopped drinking them when I got home and didn’t have any cravings for sugar or the fake stuff. YMMV :cowboy_hat_face:

Like a previous post, I also got a soda stream, my favourite drink is a good squirt of packaged lime juice, the same with lemon and a mere touch of a drop of diet, no carb, raspberry cordial. I also sometimes put in my daily serve of apple cider vinegar. It makes a really refreshing fizzy drink with a great “bite” to it, and no carbs ! Cheap and Easy.
