Hi all!
I am struggling this round of keto. Today is day 9 and last time I felt better by day 9 when I started. I haven’t been sleeping well and I’m sluggish and the body sweats are unreal.
My reading last night on my glucose and ketone blood monitor were 69/3.3. This morning it was 100/1.1. So I am producing ketones, but I feel awful. I just ate a few strawberries to try to feel a little better. I’ve pretty much only had carbs in a few pieces of broccoli/anvocado/berries/nuts over the last few days. I tried adding a little more fat with my eggs this morning. After I eat, I get sweaty and hot cold, feel so crappy.
I’m doing this to be healthier eating wise. I was eating a ton of sugar before I started.
Any advice on why this is happening?
Thank you!!
This is me: female, 5’2”, 126 lbs, 49, t3/t4 for hypothyroidism and hashimoto’s, dhea, birth control, using keto chow in water, take zinc, c, d, have no gallbladder, exercise is walking, done keto in the past with much success, typical day of eating is eggs in butter & bacon, coffee & heavy whip/stevia, lunch is salami/cheese/avocado, dinner is broccoli/steak or chicken/fish. I might eats a few nuts or raspberries/strawberries.
Help with feeling bad in the beginning
Welcome! Glad you’re here. Sorry for the reason.
But there will help popping in soon.
You may want to add some details for better support.
Age, weight, goal, specific physical or mental health issues, typical diet for you. It all helps.
Hi Rachelle
Sorry your feeling so bad. I’m don’t know much about harhimoto’s other that Neisha Berry (who blog I follow) has Hashimoto’s.
It’s worth checking Dr Berry’s channel. I know she takes iodine plus a few other things.
All I can offer is please keep going with Keto Ketovore/ Carnivore. I’d be surprised if you don’t feel better soon.
Anything is better than the standard high carb, high rubbish diet.
Thank you! I’m gonna hang in there. Last time I felt great after the 9 days! I went to New York on Thanksgiving in 2023 and it screwed my diet up and it went down hill from there.
Yeah, I read that if you are getting too much thyroid med if you are hypo you can get sweaty and feel kinda like I do. I didn’t take my thyroid med this morning to see if maybe it was jacking me up and the diet was doing something. This is prob a bad idea all around tho.
The sweating/chilled feeling after I eat is the weird thing. The fatigue is getting a little better.
Thank you again for responding!
Keep in mind for many (and I’m one of them) Keto slows down Thyroid function, mine was dropping for years and I didn’t know, but at first, when you’re not fat adapted, your body is chemically starving and it’ll try to overcorrect, which is what promotes the switch “flipping”, but that also means your T3 dose many need to be adjusted. T4 doesn’t really matter if you’re taking T3, unless your doc is trying to mimic “natural”, which is kinda pointless but many do. Really depends on your doses of each.
Takes me 50mcg of T3 to run at the speed I (should) be, I don’t bother with T4.
Hi Rachelle
Sorry to hear you’re not feeling great, it sounds like you’re doing everything right so keep at it.
I have Hashimoto’s too and am taking T3/4. I did keto before becoming hypothyroid and it was definitely easier. My blood sugars were 4-5 whereas now they generally sit around 6 - I then found out that thyroid medications can raise blood sugars. I’m trying not to stress too much though as they are generally in quite a narrow range. My ketones are variable, but the important thing to me is that I’m losing weight.
I do hope you can persevere and get some good results and an upturn in how you feel soon x
It sounds like your body is adjusting, especially without a gallbladder and with hypothyroidism. Ensure hydration and electrolytes (sodium, potassium, magnesium) are balanced. Maybe slow down on fat intake and give your body time to adapt. Also u can read more info here. Hang in there!
Sorry you are feeling bad. I don’t have any advice - just wanted to offer my support and tell you to hang in there!
My stats are similar to yours other than being a little heavier- hashi’s , no gallbladder, plus other autoimmune. Look up histamine intolerance. You have a lot of high histamine foods.
I can’t eat eggs, coconut or avocado regularly. (Currently I’m carnivore fwiw).
Keep us posted on how you are doing.
