(Jean) #1

I am trying to make some dinners and the carbs are high . Peppers are 5grams each by to stuff them with ground beef is ok.but I keep
Looking at tomatoe sauce or tomatoes etc are like 6-8 grams for 60ml.i am
In Canada and any help
With pasta sauce with meatballs etc . Everything else is ok , it’s just the tomatoes and sauces that are not cream based.

I realize a canid for a few meals but the carbs are crazy

We don’t usually do much red sauce in our meals because yeah, the tomatoes add extra carbs. Luckily, I hate actual tomatoes, so I didn’t have to worry about giving those up.

You can still make so many other things. You can be simple and it will still be good.

ground beef (or low carb meatballs), mix with riced cauliflower and add a buttery/creamy/cheese sauce, or just butter, just sour cream, or just cheese, grated parmesan cheese, etc.

salmon, steak, wings, hamburger patties…

broccoli, spinach, creamed-spinach (homemade to avoid carbs/fillers)

In the beginning I avoided tomato paste but now it doesn’t bother me as appetite is lowered since I started (calculated over 3-4 days, the damage is negligible).

I still avoid tomatoes and tomato sauce is a waste of space. They have no use for my diet and I get my Vit C elsewhere.

I heavily season meatballs with dry herbs and they are incredibly savoury and delicious. It just takes some adjusting.

The more simple your meals are, the easier it is to keep them from being carby. I find a great deal of satisfaction in a moderately fatty protein and basic vegetables sauteed in bacon grease. But I can understand your desire to eat things that closely resemble your past favorites yet I can safely say that sacrificing some of my favorite foods has not been in vain and I no longer miss them.

I ate a piece of fried chicken for the first time in the five months the other day. My family was all in awe of how delicious it was but my taste buds have changed so much that I thought it was the blandest thing ever.

Having said that, you can use green pepper instead of red and cut the carbs in half since the green ones have way less natural sugar. You can also try to find a sugar free tomato sauce or search for a recipe online and be very moderate with the sauce. If it comes in a can or jar, there’s most likely something in it that you are better off not having.

@CarlKeller yes. That’s another thing I was thinking. If you really feel like you have to have red sauce, you could make your own homemade and it will be less carbs. Most jarred sauces are just a No for me. I make a lot of stuff homemade and it’s SO EASY. Yesterday I made fettuccini alfredo using: Eggs, butter, cream cheese, parmesan cheese, garlic, salt and pepper. Yep, all of that made into noodles and a sauce!

I’ve had better luck with pesto than a red sauce. My grocery store brand has two types that have 1 carb per serving and it’s a stronger flavor so I usual use much less than I would red sauce

Thanks I don’t rate lots of pasta but use to love
Beef with tomatoes etc . But will try more cream
Sauces. I made a cauliflower Mac and cheese but find cream sauces just aren’t my things but will
Keep them simple

Look into Rao’s sensitive formula Marinara

Oh no! I’ve been making cabbage soup with ground beef it calls for a small can of tomatoes with green chilis. I eat 2 bowls a day. I wonder if that’s why I’ve stalled.
