Help prepping for a trip

(Jeff) #1

Hello all…….Newbie here and fairly new to Keto (5 Weeks) but loving it and feeling better than I can ever remember…have stuck to things to a T and to be honest its getting easier and easier but in a little over a week im heading to Las Vegas with 5 buddies and am looking for some help on prepping for the trip so I can continue my routine as much as possible.

Im hooked on bullet coffee and the energy it gives me…Starbucks or Caribou have it or do I need to pack MCT and Butter? Im not concerned with the food part as ive got that under control………main concern being the “add” in things to get my macros if needed. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!!

After five weeks, you’re well on your way. You’ve got a few options. If it’s a short trip, I’d use it as a break and eat whatever you want. A few days duration will probably only recompensate partial glycogen, there’s little chance of either fat regain or lipogenic readaptation. You could also just avoid obvious carbs like breads and potatoes. Either way is fine, just expect to gain some temporary water weight.

Just make sure you don’t become a PITA to your friends by talking about what you think you can or cannot eat.

I’m going to be in Vegas next week too. I’ve been keto for nine months and have been on several trips since beginning. I have far less anxiety about food while traveling than I used to.

I don’t know anything about Caribou, but at Starbucks you can ask them to throw a pat of their butter in your coffee. They don’t have MCT oil. When I’m on vacation however, I find that I’m fine without the BPC, so long as I have heavy cream in my room’s fridge.

I’m actually pretty damn excited about the food on this Vegas trip- because- STEAKHOUSES! Yessa!

The takeaway for me in regards to traveling, which I’m sure will prove out in Vegas, is this: if there’s one area I struggle, it’s not with food, it’s with adult beverages. If I choose to imbibe, I stay away from the sugary drinks and beer, lest I ruin the rest of my trip with a two day hangover and a 10 pound bloat that lasts well over a week. Gin & vodka martinis & red wine will still give me something to work off after I get home, but it’s no big deal.

Have a great trip!

I think Las Vegas is a great place to remain keto (if that’s what you want), buffets always offer a lot of keto foods and you can choose what to eat. Related to BPC I haven’t found chain coffee shops that sell it, so I’ll ask for coffee with a splash of HWC and then add butter/oil that I bring or ask for in the shop. For add ins, convenience stores are great, you can find cheese, nuts, peanut butter, deli meat, etcetera in snack packs if needed.

You’re gonna do great, have fun!

Thanks for the responses and suggestions!! Ill play it by ear but highly doubt ill jump off the wagon food wise…drinks, that’s a different story but im all good with the Vodka Martinis and non sugary drinks. Wahine I hear you on the steak houses in Vegas!! Suggestion for you…groupon has a great deal for BLT in Ballys DO IT!! My Fav. in Vegas…….I will update how the trip goes but to be honest for some reason im not even worried………im almost feeling addicted to everything Keto is giving me and changing in my life…energy, clarity, ditched my anxiety and im actually to the point im so motivated im exercising and lifting weights again! Thanks again all!

Try to stay keo as much as possible. You will be better for it. Buffets are good. Meat, cheese, salads (don’t do their dressings), Real butter if you can find it.

MCT powder is a thing. I haven’t used it before but others here have.
