HELP! Please

Hi, my name is Shelley, been on keto since Febuary 12, 2017. 45yr fem. Got my A1c down to 5.8 in less than a month. My Dr allowed me to go off my meds. (very expensive meds). This is pretty much my biggest victory. I go up and down the scale. Between 245 and 250. I have never cheated… I also have super bad edema I do not add extra salt to anything. I do not know what I am doing wrong however, I have always over indulged, big reason I have a weight problem. I love ALL keto food as well as the carb food I have overcome the desire for carbs now I need to work on portions. (may have solved my own problem but…) I am wondering if I should have stayed on my meds for a bit longer. My 3mo A1c went up to 6.0 after going off meds. My thoughts, my body is adjusting to being off meds and it will work itself out during the next 2 months. Sorry, I am kind of all over the place.

Awesome on being off the meds. This is going to sound weird, but I think some of yur edema is the fact your are NOT adding the salt, which you probably really need. In the search box at the top right hand side by your picture, put in the word “salt” . and then go listen to the podcast by the 2 keto dudes and read some of the other things regarding the salt. Disclaimer: I am not a medical person and will not advise you one way or another - but salt helps a bunch.

As I understand it, the body holds on to fluid when it is trying to preserve it’s sodium (salt) stores so you may well need more salt. One of the things that’s hard to get your head around when first going keto, is that (almost) everything you’ve ever been told about nutrition is incorrect.

I listened to it today… I am going to get the book. And read about it… I have had issues with edema before Keto… dr never seemed to concerned… some days are worse than others… brought some salt with me to work today… will see what happens… I stopped my bp meds too… did not realize how quick salt leaves your system.

I listened to this author today on Jimmy moore’s podcast (LLVLC) he mentioned that people tend to overeat if they are limiting salt. It’s a natural process to insure you get enough sodium.
