Help please.....heading to Spain best Keto dishes to eat

(Trudy) #1

Hi all, off to Barcelona tomorrow and not being strict Keto on my holiday but not wanting to ruin my holiday with overeating carbs. Have definitely upped my carb intake having a taste of French bread (different to Aussie bread) on my holiday but just would appreciate any suggestions. TIA

Tortilla (Spanish style omelette), probably many tapas are ok too. Great seafoods, cheeses, chorizo and cured meats like Serrano Ham. Never been to Spain but I have always wanted to go. Have a great time. :cowboy_hat_face:

I LOVED Spain when I was there a few years ago. I went to Mallorca and Barcelona. The food is AMAZING! There are a lot of carb heavy foods. I wasn’t keto when I was there and remember the seemly endless breakfast buffets of pastries and potato laden dishes which just happen to be my favorite carbs. There are plenty of dishes that are keto friendly. Barcelona has a huge selection of culinary delights. I would google where you are staying and look at the menus of nearby restaurants to get an idea of what dishes are a bit more friendly.

My husband and I are heading to Fiji on Sunday and I’m inevitably going to fall off the wagon because everything there has sugar and I don’t eat fish. :scream: But I plan on figuring it out when I get to the resort and fast while I’m there if necessary.

I went there in 2016!!! Loved it and wasn’t KETO then either. I had gelato, and pizza and BREAD with EVOO. Loved loved being there.

The basics should apply anywhere. Focus on meat, fish, cheese and small amounts of vegetables. Ask for sauces on the side. Have fun!

PRO KETO TIP:

Fish is better than sugar!

My choices when I was in Spain were Roast Suckling Pig and Cabeza.

The seafood was awesome. You should also try Polenta and Paella each once while you’re there. Most Tapas are totally fine.

Not that I know of but I am positive someone on the internet has done it. Whipped cream and espresso are keto and cake can be too. :man_cook:t3:

It’s worth eating the real deal! OMG! the best I’ve ever eaten.

I used to make the best tiramasu in a former life!:smirk:

See if you can get to one of these…

They have a fish counter at the front where you select what you want . They then grill it for you and you pick it up from a window off the kitchen. Great fish really nicely cooked… we went twice on a 5 day stay in Barcelona.

You guys are awesome, thanks…can’t wait to try something new!

I didn’t know about it when I was there, but the giant food market in Barcelona looked spectacular on TV.

I’ve had wine, macadamia nuts and cheese tonight with some 90% chocolate, plan to hit the restaurants tomorrow. Local cheese delicious. Remaining Keto but will likely gain weight, eating heaps. Must remember this (for me) is a trip of a lifetime :grinning:
