Help make me understand my triglycerides blood work

(Full Metal KETO AF) #1

Hi friends, I had this blood work done about three weeks into eating a keto diet. I’m having new testing in February when I get home from vacation. I’m getting an HbA1C test and my full regular blood work that I get every month.

What I want to know is if my triglycerides look healthy from a keto perspective. My LDL is elevated a bit but overall it seems in range to me. Is it healthy the way it is?

Thanks :cowboy_hat_face:

What are your numbers?

I happen to have my metabolic panel from Sept right in front of me, as I keep it in my “keto notebook.” The ranges you want to shoot for are:

Trigs under 149
HDL betw 40-240
LDL under 99
Total Cholesterol under 199
HbA1c 5.6 and under is good, 5.7 to 6.4 is prediabetic

Hope this is helpful.

Good luck,

Here’s my crystal ball prediction for your next blood test if you’ve been consistently keto:

Trigs will go wayyyy down. You’ll probably like this number the most.
HDL will go up (which is good), but not too much, harder to move the needle on this one.
LDL may go up more than you like. But only because you are using fat as fuel.
Total Chol will go up because of the rise in LDL.

With regards to the LDL, don’t freak out. The longer you eat keto, the more likely the LDL lowers and levels out. You should expect to get the LDL into a more optimal range within a year.

Other factors can affect these numbers, such as coffee consumption and fasting, both of which can make your cholesterol go up.

Good luck,
