HELP! How do I gain weight on Keto?

(Mitali) #1

Although Keto is great for improving and controlling my blood sugar, I’m now going in the underweight category, I cannot start carbs again to increase my weight as it messes up with my blood sugar, nor do I want to go under weight and risk anything, plus I look too thin and sullen, my ideal weight would be 55-65 I am at 51 now. How can I gain some weight whilst staying on keto/low carb?

Currently on low carb

Increase calories.

Isn’t this where fat is used as a lever?

Give us some usual meals and we’ll try to help…

I’m steadily gaining muscle by just eating keto foods but instinctively, so to hunger without any tracking at all. Can’t say for sure it’ll work for everyone but it’s defibitely working for me.

Can you please elaborate?

I feel so full on low carb, it’s difficult to eat anymore.

I’m following low carb so -
Breakfast - apple with cinnamon and peanut butter, black coffee + artificial sweetner
Lunch - Something with chicken or eggs and veggies, complex carbohydrates, cooked in butter added cheese
Dinner - same, complex carbohydrates, veggies and chicken/eggs
Occasional: Berries, dark chocolates, very little refined carbs
My blood sugar problem is genetic and I was never overweight in my life.
Very rare: Diet coke.

It’s working for me, but my face looks too thin, I don’t want to go underweight :frowning:

Have you thought about more fats ? Olives, avocado, more butter, cream, bullet proof coffee?
That looks like a pretty low fat menu… unless you are cooking in loads of butter and adding in plenty of cheese.
I’d be looking at pork belly , bacon, chicken thighs over breast that sort of thing? Does that sound appealing?

I also have to be work at not losing weight. I’m a shrimp, but I need to hold my weight at 110 if possible. It took me a while to figure it out, but I did finally discover that all it takes for me is increasing fats. A tablespoon of coconut oil in every cup of coffee. Lots of butter or olive oil or avocado oil on all my veggies. A couple of ounces of cream cheese for a fat bomb snack. I’ve learned how to have total control over my weight with my fats now. I don’t even count or measure how much fat I eat, except to make sure I hit minimum levels. After that, I don’t worry about it, and I never seem to go too high. It works for me anyway!

How about adding eggs scrambled in butter and coconut oil with breakfast, and cheese cubes with the berries., maybe switch that coffee for a bulletproof coffee?

The other thing I go for is adding muscle. As long as muscle covers the bones you don’t look think, people just think you have great definition…

Rather than eating a specific amount of carbs per day, you should consider eating in intervals. That way you insure glycogen is never overcompensated. Consider eating carbs every third meal for example. You can play with the frequency to find what suits you.
