Hi y’all! Well here I am the next day of a heavy night of drinking. Alcohol of choice? Vodka & Soda water! The problem is I’m diabetic and I should of known better because pre keto it would bring my blood sugars down and of course it still does but now to a dangerous point…37 this morning… Ugh! First thing I did was eat an avocado & plum…did I kick myself out of ketosis? I’m a a newbie so any words of wisdom is appreciated. Any body else out there with type 2 experience this? …like do I need to stop drinking compleatly or how do I bring those blood sugars up without kicking myself out of ketosis?
Help! Heavy night of drinking!
@richard she needs guidance and I’m worried.
I’m not diabetic. But yes for now be careful. How long have you been fat adapted?? Or are you new to this?

Hi Karen, I been doing keto for about a month now and am fat adapted…I’m currently drinking ketoaid to flush the alcohols out…reading my blood sugars at 78 now but don’t know where to go from here. Do I put fat or carbs in my body at this point and to what degree?
Breathing a bit better. 78 is not too scary. If your bg has been steady before this on keto 70-150, then keep testing and add a little carb as necessary to stay safe and the rest moderate protein, fat to satiety.
Hoping admin. Will chime in. ,@carl

I’m not a doctor, and I’ve never seen my BG in the 30s after drinking or any other time. Sorry, I can’t be of more help.
I would ask you if you felt dizzy, but I think that’s a given.
Why? The avocado seems fine to me. Apart from that: if you don’t feel well or you acutely worry about something, call an ambulance, don’t ask for medical advice in a forum! That’s irresponsible!
@Zimon No, I’m not asking for medical advice, I’m asking for insite…just wondering if any other type II’er has experienced this and what they did to bouce back? My apologies if it sounds like I’m asking for medical advice
@carl yes (on the dizziness) at waking… but the odd part is I didn’t or don’t feel hung over I just feel light headed…I’m new at this so I’m wondering if anybody else has experienced such a low reading after drinking and how they addressed it…and what their experice was? Or How they approached it.
Eating the avocado and plum are fine. Your BS should continue to rise. Eat a regular meal like breakfast and you will be fine. The good news is that you’re testing your BS and recognize that you have a problem w/ low BS. And then you ate something.
Did you just test once or a number of times to check the reading? I’m just wondering if it was a rogue reading ( I have had a few either really high or really low and on re-testing have found it was an incorrect reading). specially if you had a bit of a hangover,?
That did cross my mind but I woke with dizziness and heart palpitations (it wasn’t uncommon for me for me to read low pre-keto drinking) so I was prepared for a low reading but not this low! …after I ate the avocado and plum I waited 15 min and retested and it was going up. Just wondering if this is a common occurrence with diabetics, keto & drinking? If it helps, I’m 5’5” @130lbs…this is actually the first time I’ve had a drink since starting keto…guessing my body can’t take it any longer
I guess quantity of alcohol and length of time asleep could also play a major part…
I’m Type 2 but don’t drink so not especially helpful… Maybe try a bit less booze next time and see what happens?
I am also T2 and rarely drink, but when I do, it is one drink max. Alcohol pre-keto raised my BS a lot. Haven’t had anything since I started keto.
I go low when I drink also. I usually eat something before I got to bed so I don’t wake up super low like that. An avocado is a great choice. You are already back up in normal range so I would not worry too much, just keep eating like you normally would.
Thanks everyone for your insite…it was a bit alarming as you can understand. The take away is if I do choose to drink, I’m just gonna have to scale back tremendously on this kito diet and eat something prior to going to bed…lesson learned! Any suggestions carbs, protine, fat?
