Help for Type 2 Diabetic getting into Ketosis

#1

GM everyone. I’ve started Keto about 2 weeks ago along with mother mother-in-law. She is a type 2 diabetic. Last night we tried the ketostix (which i heard is not accurate) and mine showed up moderate and her’s didn’t show any. We have been eating the same meals. Less than 20 grams carbs, moderate protein and butter olive oil etc. Not eating past 7pm and first meals by 11am. What advice can you suggest for type 2 diabetes. She feels like giving up and i’m trying to motivate her to keep going. Please help. She needs this also. Thanks

Ask her what she plans to do once she gives up. Back to the diet that got her sick in the first place?

She needs to be patient. It took time to break things and it takes time to fix them.

Honestly I would not worrying about measuring at all. I have been doing this for a couple years and I have never mentioned ketones once.

How is her BG doing?

Is she tracking her blood sugar?

I’ve never measured ketones, ever, myself.

I would blame Ketostix as not being accurate. If she’s been consuming less than 20 grams of carbs for 2 weeks, how could she not be in ketosis? How have her blood sugar readings been?

A keto diet helped me tremendously with my T2 diabetes. I used to use nearly a vial of insulin daily. I started a restricted calorie keto WOE at the start of 2017 and haven’t used insulin since, and late last year I stopped taking metformin as well. My typical blood sugar reading is under 100, and A1C dropped from 7.3 to 5.2.

But results do vary… :frowning:

Yes. Her blood sugar is actually normal

#6

I asked her she says she wants to continue. What is BG.

#7

Her blood sugar readings has been normal since starting. I’ve told her also just be patient. It will happen

Blood glucose. The fact that last hers are normalizing is more important than ketones or weight loss. Tell her to stay the course.

I agree with the others. Fuck ketones, she’s a T2D and her blood sugar is normal. How is that not the most important marker of something working?

Easy option is stay under 20. The ketones will come (I guess  ) as I dont measure. But the changes are amazing so I have to assume…

Ok I will. Thank you
