Am I allowed to drink a cup of coffee with only a couple tbsp of HWC. Or will that break my fast.
Doing a 4 day fast and don’t want to mess it up. Input plz ??

I drink 7-8 100ml espresso’s with a DROP of cream a day during fasting and I don’t consider that as breaking my fast but some do.
Definition of fasting is to eat only sparingly or of certain kinds of food. Adding fat from cream just means you’re doing a “fat fast”.
Will this affect autophagy? Maybe. Will it affect weight loss? Probably not. If it helps, no reason not to add it.
I ended up making a cup. Added hwc. Took a few sips. Poured it out. Going to try again tomorrow with only water. But I guess now I’m doing a fat fast since I did drink some coffee with cream.
I’ve seen “fast” used to define all sorts of ways of eating. Fat fast, egg fast, bacon fast. When I fast I like to stick to zero/low calorie liquids only (water and coffee). Really up to personal interpretation.
Technically, the hwc breaks a fast, but I occasionally use butter on the second day of a two to three day fast to get me through. The HWC or butter will gently raise your insulin and you can stay in ketosis.
That said, it depends on what you are doing the fast for. If it is for autophagy, then its water and black coffee. If its for weight loss, you can hack the fast by doing a BPC without going too crazy on the fats. I use only 1/2 tbsp of butter over 60 hours.
I wanted to fast to help me stop stalling in weightloss. Been stuck for over a week at same weight.

Oh no. Well congrats to you for sticking with it while stalling. That takes will power. I figured out what was stalling me. It was artificial sweeteners and I’m willing to bet money on it. So glad I did this fast. It has helped me think about what I’m going to change with my diet when I do start consuming food again.
Luckily I’m a stay at home mom. If I had to go to work I could definitely not do extended fasting. I would be too dizzy and no energy. Like I’m feeling this morning.
Weight loss is not linear. Especially as your body is recompositioning.
Not sure if this applies to you, Chelsea, but a woman’s monthly cycle can make a big difference some weeks. For me, the week (or two, sometimes) before a period I experience increased insulin resistance and even fasting gets me very little in the way of immediate results. It comes off afterward, so it’s not wasted effort, but your cycle may be worth considering as a confounding factor when you’re looking at the scale.
I figured that out last month. And now that you bring it up. My period is due sept 6th. So that could be it ? But maybe too early for that…

If you’re fat adapted, this feeling isn’t from lack of food (unless there’s no fat for your body to use?) it’s more likely an electrolyte balance issue. Potassium, Magnesium and Sodium?
Fat adapted and fasting most often creates a different kind of energy and focus. YMMV
Hmm… does seem a bit early, but it’s hard to say. My periods have been irregular and also more variable in length since starting keto, so I probably wouldn’t rule it out for myself. But I’ve also had stalls at times unrelated to my periods too, including three weeks recently where the scale just stalled out and then started moving again for no real discernible reason. I think most of us have times when we stall and sometimes we never figure out why, even after it’s over.
That could be it. I have plenty of fat to live off of lol. I am not doing electrolyte because the one I have been using was propel and that has added sweeteners and I’m Cutting those out. Any suggestions on some without sweeteners
I can usually tell when I’m ovulating and so far I don’t think I am. But who knows. My periods did get off track at start of dieting. They made me a week later than normal so may be it is adjusting and that could be why.
