Hello all!

(Rick) #1

I am new to keto, new to the forum. I’m 56 and the last year has been a disaster medically, with a dislocated pelvis followed by a stuck kidney stone (dropped my kidney function down to 44%), uncontrolled hypertension, and to put the icing on the cake, Type 2 Diabetes.

I’ve been prescribed a crap ton of medications, and ended up on 3 separate injections for my BG. Enter keto WOE, and I’m quickly turning it around. HbA1C from 10.5 down to 5.5, I am now in the process of dropping my diabetes meds and significantly lowering my BP meds (down from 7 meds to 2).

It really steams me that I had to live so long under horrible dietary guidelines courtesy of my own government, which I believe played a big part in getting me so fat and sick. Thank God for keto, it is making all the difference.

I hope to get back to lifting, back to health.
So far so good! Thanks for being there, I’m sure I’ll be asking a lot of questions! By the way, it’s so great to eat foods I ACTUALLY ENJOY!!!

Welcome! You’re doing awesome!

At this point, it seemed timely to ask - and what did you get for Christmas?

But it turns out you got keto! You applied yourself without whining and got yourself into ketosis. Bravo!

Keep us updated on your intrepid recovery.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #4

I know, right? :bacon:

You’ve come to the right place. I really like these people, and they have a wealth of information at their fingertips. You’ll be in good hands here.

Welcome, Rick!

There’s a whole thread on here called “Do you ever get angry?” where folks vent about terrible guidelines and backwards medical advice

(Chris) #6

What an inspiring first post. Welcome!

Rick, that is really great. :slightly_smiling_face: It’s amazing how fast things can turn around when we stop harming ourselves and start helping/letting the body do what it can for itself. I had a lesser decline in A1C from 7.3 to 5.7, and my doctor was still quite impressed.

Yes - the individual is faced with a huge amount of inertia working against them - the profit motive, politics and the status quo in industry/government/the medical community.

Wow, that is awesome. CONGRATULATIONS!

I’ll be seeing my nephrologist and endocrinologist next week. No idea how they will respond. At least I have some good numbers to help my case…will let you know what their reactions are!

Thanks for sharing, Rick!

It is bad when your own government spews out guidelines that are detrimental to your health and your own doctors parrot the same. In my case, I can combine some of that with a little more from a particular religious community that I grew up among and it’s kind of a double whammy.

Glad things are turning around for you. The body can do incredible things to heal itself if given the right input. Hopefully in your case, the things you were experiencing were caught early enough to reverse completely and you can heal to the point where it was as though you never had any of it. They say the longer those things go the harder it is for the body to heal.

All the best in your journey and I hope we’ll see you posting often!

P.S. LOVE the beard!! (I’m a wearer as well, kinda similar to your avatar.)

I saw my nephrologist today - he was very pleased with my improving health and to celebrate, he removed me from yet another BP med. He didn’t have the slightest problem with keto, and told me to keep up what I am doing. If I can get similar cooperation from my endocrinologist Wednesday, that would be A-number-one-primo!!!

(Jen) #12

Way to go Rick! That’s an amazing A1C drop! Welcome!

(Carpe salata!) #13

10.5 down to 5.5. Medical science can’t do that without risking hypos or excessive and damaging insulin levels. The doc would have to have been impressed.

Another keto victory

My husband had the same experience. He has struggled with type 2 diabetes and has been insulin dependent for years. Also very insulin resistant. Followed dietary guidelines of ADA and told to just increase insulin as needed. Found keto diet this year and immediately I started us both on it. It has been a miracle! His blood sugar is normal now everyday with only metformin. NO INSULIN. We’re frustrated too that we didnt know sooner. He’s still fighting to keep his leg but there’s hope now. Ketoers for life!

(Patrick) #15

That’s awesome Rick, keep it up.

Saw my endocrinologist today, she was quite pleased with my progress, and had no issues with keto, even knew about The Obesity Code…said to keep it up. Two for two!!! And I don’t have to seek out new doctors!!! Win!!! Keto on!!
