Why does some heavy cream have carbs and others doesn’t? They were out of my favorite kind of HC at the store so I looked at a different one and the one I usually get is 1 carb this one said zero. Serving size is the same. Also the one I get I noticed ( which I can’t believe I never noticed before because Iv been drinking it for 4 months ) has 1 g added sugar but in the ingredients doesn’t list sugar or anything . This new one I got lists gellen gum in ingredients - never heard of it I hope it’s okay - also this new one I got is organic the other one is not . I still like my other one better lol
Heavy cream
If something has less than one gram companies are allowed to say zero. So if the ingredients are the same it’s probably differences in reporting. Also, nutrition information is never as precise as labeling makes it look, especially in a food that wasn’t made in a lab. The milk came from different cows. Then there’s whatever the emulsifiers and stabilizers contribute to the situation.
Nutrition labels are estimates, no matter how many decimal places they use to make it look scientific.
Good that you’re reading labels. And that was some good info, Ruina.
I try to stay away from any ‘gum’ (gellen, guar etc) ingredients or additives. Don’t be afraid to toss the carton and get rid of what’s left. It’s wasteful, yes, but I think letting it go is the lesser of two evils. If you feel it’s not good for you, don’t put it in your body. Forfeit the few bucks and go get your regular brand. Hope you’re able to find it next time.
Yes! Let me be more clear. Labels are helpful estimates, and we should absolutely check them. Just understand their limits. Good call CampWoman.
I bought some organic (no additives) HWC on vacation last week and the flavor was better than what I was getting. $$ cost was higher but oh well. KCKO
All HWC has at least 0.4g carbs per serving (they can call it zero on the nutrition label because it’s less than half a gram per serving, though). If the new kind you bought is even slightly higher (like 0.5 or 0.6g per serving), they’ll round up to one rather than round down to zero, even though the difference between the two is, in actuality, negligible to the point of being practically nonexistent. So I pretty much just assume that any and all standard, unsweetened HWC is about half a gram of carbs per tablespoon, nutrition label aside, and count the carbs accordingly.
