Heart rate is crazy high

(Tom Seest) #42

Interesting.

Good to know.

With the combined problem with the heart anomaly and ME/CFS, have you ever tried supplementing D-Ribose? It’s a common difficiency for both. Makes me wonder.

It’s not Keto but we’re both trying to solve problems on the inside first.

(Rebecca Vaughan) #43

Thanks Tom, I do use D-ribose, it helps give a little energy boost, but it’s not much different form drinking a cup of coffee, but without the nasty caffeine buzz. D-ribose doesn’t stop the crashes which are the worst thing about ME, if you use up your energy quota for the day too fast you can crash a couple of hours to days later and then be in bed for days to weeks, even months for the worst affected.

I have found the most helpful thing for me at the moment is Low Dose Naltrexone, it reduces the amount I crash, increases stamina and reduces recovery time, I’m still 90 percent house bound though, desperate to go fo ra walk or bike ride with my daughter. I used to be an avid cyclist (down hill mountain biking and skiing)

Nothing i have done touched the effects of keto :frowning:

(Tom Seest) #44

Yes. I just asked because you hadn’t listed it.

I’ll let you know if I think of anything else.

Best wishes.

I don’t know if you have experimented with them or not, but you might want to try some exogenous Ketones, just to see if the Ketones provide the benefits you are looking for. I don’t think of them as necessarily a good long term strategy but the could answer some questions for you.

You could purchase a 30 day supply of something like Kegenix and see if you get the energy boost that you suspect you’re going to get by utilizing ketones (you feel like you are benefiting).

The one thing to watch if you use something like Kegenix or Keto OS or any of the others, is most have a salt base and you’ll be getting an increase in electrolyte. So, pay attention to the labels.

It’s a shame that you’re running into difficulties with the heart rate with Ketogenesis.

(Rebecca Vaughan) #46

that sounds interesting, would raspberry ketones work? I saw some in the store yesterday.

(Tom Seest) #47

No. They don’t actually contain ketones.

Just beware that some of them also contain Caffeine and will make you feel jittery.

But, this could get you over the edge and let you know if it’s the ketones that are making you feel better. It’s always so difficult to tell, because so much is changing in the beginning.

(Rebecca Vaughan) #48

just found this interesting forum post

(Rebecca Vaughan) #49

also this "The best approach for me seems to be to take the ketone salts in the morning on empty stomach, skip breakfast, have a keto lunch with oen or two more ketone doses, and then have a normal dinner with a 20 min walk (if I can tolerate it) right after to lower the blood glucose. "

I have noticed that eating a keto style lunch and then a starchy carb for dinner helps, maybe ketones in the morning and skipping breakfast would work for me too!

Exciting. I didn’t even Google it. I was just thinking in terms of the problem that you are presenting.

I hope you can try it and it brings you some relief.

I will say that each brand is made differently and uses different molecules, so it doesn’t hurt to try different brands.

Some are sold by Mutli-level Marketing companies, and that can be a turn off for some.

(Rebecca Vaughan) #51

yes I’ll seriously look into it, I’ll find some brands online and send you links here to see if they are ok if that’s ok with you!?

thanks for your help

My heart rate increased going through the menopause. I even heard it pounding on my eardrums and it kept me awake at nights!

(Rebecca Vaughan) #53

I hope i’m not going through menopause, I’m only 39! but my HR raised in direct correlation with the diet, and then lowered once off the diet.

#54

I hope not too! Was just pointing out that menopause can cause it. Thought I was dying when it first happened to me lol

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #55

I certainly didn’t think it was keto that had caused your heart problems (you and Tom were very clear about the origins of your heart problems), and I’m sorry to have given that impression in my post. It was just that after listening to as much as I could of your stories (sorry, I’m a wimp!) I felt that people shouldn’t take chances with possible heart trouble, and that the posters in this thread should probably go check with their doctors. That’s all I was trying to say, and I regret giving any other impression.

Many people with cFs/ME also have POtS. This is something hat is often only picked up or showing more symptoms to be annoying and noticeable later down the line (symptoms easy to brush off as other things earlier on/when younger). Ask GP about a tilt table test. It may be this as there is a huge correlation between ME and POTS. Your symptoms certainly sound v familiar. Hx

(Rebecca Vaughan) #57

hi, yes i think i have very mild pots that’s only really noticeable if I have a bad flare, but I think keto could be exacerbating it. I took a few weeks break and am starting again today, this time with higher protein to fat ratio as high fat is not recommended for people with pots.

(Rebecca Vaughan) #58

Hi all, just an update on my situation, I’m a month in on my second attempt at ketosis, my heart rate is still high but not quite as high as it was before, this is due to increasing my electrolytes including potassium. Last time I was also put off because keto seemed to be giving me asthma on top of the high HR, but I figured out that the asthma was caused by the large amount of spinach I was eating (oxalates). I"m still hoping my HR will lower, but things feel much better than last time, maybe because I knew what to expect, I don’t know. Anyway thanks for all your help, let me know if you have any questions!

(JOE FABEETS) #59

Where do you live!? A 2 year waiting list? That sounds terrible!

(Rebecca Vaughan) #60

Canada, I live right on the edge of Alberta and the specialist is in Vancouver. My illness is very misunderstood and the only real places that know anything are in the US. Most people self-treat (often with disastrous consequences) because science has not caught up to the what’s going on with us yet, though they are making progress, but at least 5 years before the FDA approves any drugs. sigh.

Are you sure that you need to take electrolytes? Have you had lab work that shows deficiency? I’ve been fasting for the better part of two months without electrolyte supplementation and my blood work is within normal limits.
