Heart Palpitations

Hi, I just completed my second week yesterday. It’s been successful so far, down 13lbs, but I seem to be having heart palpitations more frequently as time goes on with this diet. After researching, I’ve started supplementing with extra magnesium and potassium the past couple of days. I’m still having the problem. I might go an entire day without any, but then all of a sudden, I may have several within an hour. Is this normal? Will it stop? It’s a bit unnerving for me and takes a little bit of my breath away when it happens. Messaged my doctor and she recommended stopping the keto method. I prefer not to if there is an end in sight for the palpitations, as otherwise, I feel fantastic!!! Any advice or feedback from others who’ve had the same problem would be greatly appreciated!

I got heart palpitations after a few days of potassium supplementation. I think that it’s a mineral that we get in food (especially on keto?) and I now only supplement with it when I’m fasting and particularly active and even then I cut a pill in halves or quarters to take small doses.

But it sounds like your palpitations started before the supplementation?

Hi there, yes, mine started before potassium supplements.

HAve you tried just salt? I was having them the other day and I couldn’t get it to calm down. I tried a good sized pinch of salt every fifteen minues three times and it settled down. I think I am overhydrating but I have been so thirsty lately. And it is weird, since giving up all sweeteners water actually tastes sweet to me.

Interesting… I drink a ton of water everyday. I try to add salt to everything I make foodwise. When I have a flare up again, I’ll try some saltwater. Thanks!
