Healing fractured bone?

(jim Chiodo) #1

been on keto 6 months. shuold there be any adjustment to diet in next 5-6 week period wearing cast? (more/less protein, fasting or not?) or no affect on healing. distal fracture left arm radius bone. male age 73. also, can someone please stop by and tie my shoes?

Oh boy… better get some shoes with Velcro. I fractured the head of my radius (elbow) five years ago. I feel your pain. Be glad you don’t wear a bra!!!:rofl::rofl: I had to send a family member to buy one that fastened in the FRONT.
As far as Keto and healing I’d think you’ll heal faster and better. JMHO

My mother is a Baby Boomer like you, recently recovering from metatarsal surgery. She asked the surgeon about fasting and he said no. Keep the calories high and eat extra protein. The body needs to be provided resources to heal, especially in older folks, who don’t have the hormonal advantages that young people have.

If you Google the term wound healing bone nutrition you’ll get tons of good results. Bone is living tissue and this isn’t that different than any other type of wound. Higher protein, minerals, and vitamins. Just eat extra healthy and maybe look for a “healthy skin and nails” type supplement at a health food store. If you have a hairline fracture in your wrist, vs a fill blown leg bone break, you’ll probably be fine just letting your body do its thing.

Ouch. Heal quickly!

Are we negotiating? I could make the drive from GR to tie your shoes…

Can’t stop by but these work well.

i couldn’t wear those. someone might confuse me with a cool guy. thanks for the answers. as for negotiating for coming to tie my shoes, I’d offer a beer. Except that water is better and I wouldn’t limit you to one,

Lol I am not cool. I just hate trying shoes. They are hell on your fingers getting them in.

This is great… rarely undo my laces…

google autophagy and fasting.
See if your PT has something called Restricted Blood Flow (Kaatsu therapy). I just chatted with my PT about it. Not fun but speeds up recovery.
I heard about it on STEM Talk podcast.
