It happens. Have you taken any of the advice to practice?
Haven't lost weight:(
Actually been such a busy week since I posted I just now saw this. I am going to amp up my calories to 1700ish a day. literally going against anything I have every been told about weightloss, so I am scared, but hopeful. Any suggestions on foods that are high in calories and fat but moderate in protein?
@smittenketokitten2 try that level of calories and see if you improve at all, but frankly 1700 is low. I posted a video below to illustrate the point that I’m trying to get across.
As far as foods low in protein, how much protein are you getting? I’ll wager you’re already on the low end and that it’s probably not worth worrying about. Fatty meat is the single best keto food possible.
Hi all, I am new here, but not knew to keto. when I first heard and researched keto I was so so excited “finally I am going to loose the weight and take my health back”… well that has not happened and I am gunna lay out my info (try to see it short) because home girl needs some help.
- I am 20 (almost 21
#holla, 5’1, 148
- when I was 18 I was 113, energetic, less stress/tired, normal period. went to college and pizza, partying, eating out, binging, stress, school, and drinking caused me to gain #freshman15 then another 15 too. last year I realized I was 140 and freaked. went to my old HS ways of disordered eating… -1000 cals a day and extreme cardio. and nothing. wend to doc to see whats up and I am normal (sort of discouraging) accept for 2 periods a month
3.Went to Europe for half of summer and came back 150 and started keto one week later.
4.i am a nerd and loved reading and have read/researched/listened to so much, i am not a #cluelessketo well sort of

One month eating around anywhere from 1300-2000 cals a day, usually 14000 BUT alway 80/20/-5 and no weight loss. in the words of ross Gellar “I did not cheat” I promise yet the scale and my pant size did not budge
-
pissed and I try Atkins 20, aka keto diet but with crappy processed foods that make you
but not in the good way, lasted 10 days and went back to keto, but added fiber to my diet but was extreme eating like 1000 cals, >15 TOTAL carbs and small protein.

September: I lost 2 lbs (water weight), working out, checking meter and I am usually 1.3-3 range, I drop (and BG^ rises after intense cardio( but I am no runner so thats rare))I have had maybe 4 total slips ups in a span of 3 months but I quickly went wright back into ketosis the next day. was put on BC , Lo loestrin Fe for period and I 100% it has not affected my weight

I am now 148 and pissed:/.what can I freaking do, has anyone else seen such a thing? I am doing everything right and it feels hopeless like the universe wants me to be heavy. It brings me to tears, because I work so hard, cook myself, no gluten, sugar, lactose, lots of water, sacrifice so much, say no everyday do carb, no processed, no inflamitories and just can’t loose the weight?
I feel like the only human on the planet who can’t loose weight on keto, so alone. I love how keto makes me feel but I want so desperately to fit into my old clothes and feel more confident. Not trying to sound like Madison from This Is US, my BMI is high, but also let it be know that I love myself and my body I am just also mad because I truly feel like such a fat failure.
So any advise, help, personal story, heck a funny meme;) anything would be so greatly appreciated?
OK.
Do Keto for the health of it.
Chill on the scale business. Your body will know what to do, when it’s ready.

Give it some time. Aim to stick to 20 net grams of carbs per day, and go from there!! If you find something is not working for you, then make changes one at a time!! Stay positive, you will get there!!
Newbie here, but gonna advise anyway. Chill, girl! I know how it works. You do everything right and the scale doesn’t cooperate. I KNOW! The mantra here is KCKO: keep calm and keto on. Seriously. Chill. Keep carbs to 20 or less (and track for a while to be sure there aren’t sneaky ones getting you), forget about calories, and see what happens. I think your stress level may be keeping you where you’re at. My pattern is to lose a little then stall for like 2 weeks or more, then it’s like by body goes "ok, if you’re sure…"and I lose 2lbs over night.
Can you give us an idea of what you may eat in a typical day?
I know you have researched keto and get the foods that you should eat, but someone may spot something.
Also, 2 periods a month is not normal, and suggests a hormonal issue. PCOS or something similar?
Hormones entirely govern how much fat is being released or stored so it could be that you have an underlying hormonal issue that will take time to resolve before weight loss starts.
Keto should help with that.
How much exercise are you getting? Are you monitoring CICO?
I started about 5 weeks ago. Have gone from 197 to 180. Have been as low as 175.8 but then popped back up to 182. The point being your weight is going to be unpredictable. The larger you are the greater the weight fluctuation. However, if you monitor what you eat, and stay in a calorie deficient state for an extended period of time you will lose the weight. My advice would be to not be so concerned about your macro % as much as calorie intake and burn rate.
Stay away from foods that are calorie dense unless you feel you have to have it. Eat things that make you feel full but don’t have a lot of calories. Watermelon comes to mind. Mixed vegetables.
Joe Rogan just made a video talking about diets. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u93oh9kC-rU Go to 1:19.
While I have been stalled for more than a year I still feel better and that helps. When I started keto I was only able to lose weight during IF and longer fasts. I would lose a few pounds each fast and keep them off with keto but I have a lot more to lose
Where on this site did you find advice to count calories? Except for the poster above, who thinks sugary watermelon is fine keto food, counting calories is generally not advised when starting keto. Ulimately, very far down the road, a few people find calorie counting helpful. You aren’t anywhere near that stage.
It could easily take 3 months before you are fat adapted. A few lucky individuals immediately dropped pounds and pounds, but most have to just be patient and let the process slowly unfold.
@gitanacv how can you eat low calorie foods on a keto diet?? Watermelon as a meal is definitely not keto
I’m a beginner also, and I have researched what I needed as I go. I have only lost 9lbs since 10/13, but I’m please with that. I try and avoid the scales and let my clothes tell the story. Nothing happens if you don’t go with the rules. If you falter just start again, don’t give up.
Because of the hormone issues you seem to be experiencing there may be other medical questions you could explore. I read that women have seven major changes in their body in their lifetime. I’m in my 70’s and I can attest to that assumption. You are never to young to know how your body works. Have some tests done, ask your doctor questions. Look it up online, there are so many options, take advantage of them.
Watermelon isn’t on the Keto list,(wish it was). But if you count calories you could see how many are in a serving of watermelon. If you count carbs, stay away from that fruit, its over the top. Eat macadamias!
I don’t look at calories, I’m lazy and it’s also hard for me to focus on grams, but I believe if I stick to the basics it will keep working for me. Good Luck to all and to me.
Watermelon has a lot of fiber and although it is high in carbs relatively speaking, it is low in calories and will fill you up. After a long hard workout, it is awesome because it satisfies your thirst, cools you off and the carbs are quickly used because of the intense workout. Not everyone uses carb cycling but it is certainly an option. If one is really concerned about elevating insulin levels they can eat half a slice now and the other half later. Insulin will not be very impacted when you are only taking in roughly 100 calories for 400g.
I thought we had an agreement that I’d leave you alone as long as you didn’t peddle your bullshit on newbies asking about the ketogenic diet, which you’re NOT doing, but here you are doing it again.
Insulin responses aren’t based on the caloric or fiber content. 100 calories of fat will have a nearly ZERO insulin response. 100 calories of sugar will have a HUGE insulin response. It’s not about the calories. It’s about the sugar and the hormones.
Yes you can cut calories and lose weight. You can also chop your leg off and lose weight. That doesn’t mean it’s not a stupid fucking way to do it.
His breaching this informal agreement doesn’t surprise me. I sincerely hope the moderators address this. There’s enough confusion without active trolling.
