Have I Fallen out of Ketosis

(EL) #1

Hello all
I have been Keto for 6 months and went through the dragon breathe, lost 30lbs, and have started IF and periodic fasting. I am stalled but am assuming that is because my body is settling and catching up with me at this point. I have 30 more pounds to lose, I don’t lift weights but walk and garden. I am going to start more muscle work soon.

Anyway, I thought I was doing really well and all of the sudden I noticed I have Keto breathe again. WHAT?? Didn’t I already do this??? Does the Dragon Breathe go away and come back naturally or does this mean I dropped out of ketosis and am just now back in ketosis?

I don’t measure anything but do keep track of my macros. So far so good keeping within my limits but I do sometimes go over the carbs by a few grams. Is that enough to throw me out of ketosis?

Clamping down on the carbs but so frustrating that a little extra, from veggies mind you, can throw me out so fast.

Ideas? Experiences? Will this happen forever?

Eight months in I still sometimes get the breath / metallic taste - for me it’s usually when my blood ketones are really high as opposed to dropping out and coming back in again. The only way you’ll know for sure though is to test for yourself.

I advise when you are concerned to track macros for a few days, just to see if something is sneaking in that you weren’t expecting, not unduly burdensome and will give you some peace of mind.

I track macros every day for the last 6 months. Keep pretty consistent. THanks though.

Good to know. THanks so much!

Sorry, misread this.

Too high amounts of protein can cause awful bad breath. Have you upped your protein lately? If not, take it as a sign that you were out of ketosis and now you are back in. Not the end of the world.

No worries…just trying to figure it all out. THanks for the thought though.

Hi - I’ve heard the body knows better what to do with ketones, and the bad breath goes away after a while (this is what the Doc said on Keto Talk, but I cannot remember the episode).
