So the counter argument to Jason Wittrock’s 4000 calories keto experiment is the guy from KetoConnect, also lean and muscular, who did a 4000 calorie experiment where he quite clearly gained body fat.
Have any of you gained body fat while on keto?
I gained body fat% apparently this isn’t uncommon early on as you are losing water weight which then makes your fat % higher than it was. Also the composition and movement of fat before you lose it can up the numbers. I’m not going to worry about it until I’m well and truly fat adapted.
I hope no one is bothered by our tangent Going carnivore literally solved all of my awful gut and digestion issues. All problems went away and I feel the healthiest I’ve ever felt as a carnivore. I feel it’s given me a combo of lowered body fat and reduced bloating so I feel slimmer. Some of those benefits slip away when I add too much cream or cheese, which are technically still carnivore I think but not helpful for weight loss in my case. Try meat only, and experiment with your ratios of fat but having period of fatty meats vs leaner meats and see how you feel best. I am currently on a leaner meats fad. I would love to hear how you go!
I wonder whether people who aren’t severely insulin resistant (which I am assuming neither of us are) don’t need the super high fat diet that is so helpful for T2DMs
I gained some body fat on keto here recently, and not from carb creep because I’m solidly in ketosis at all times.
For me, I could not get full on fat and moderate protein. I just kept eating more fat, more fat, more fat to the point where I was gaining fat (duh).
I have scaled back the intense cardio, which I understand can form new fat cells in the absence of carbs, and burn muscle for fuel. THat helped both the hunger and the fat gain.
I also eat more protein than is recommended. NOt a ton more, but more than moderate and I am full now and no longer gaining. I have low levels of ketones (.6 - 2.4 but usually about .8 or .9) even when I was super high fat and lowered protein. So I’m still at those numbers with the changes and we’ll see if that works
Yes I gain on Keto if I don’t pair it with intermittent fasting. It could be my extreme love of bacon that causes the problem.
John Keifer from Carb Nite Solution and Carb Backloading fame. He’s a pretty legit source, but neither of those diets follows ketogenic protocols, per se
Me too.
Being on keto 4 months. First two were ok appetite-wise and fatloss-wise. But after some point I stopped feeling satiety after meals, the sleep quality dropped and I started binge eating. I think that might be leptin related problem. So now I try to slide into cyclic keto to see any benefits of limited carb introduction.
I did. I gained about 15 lbs over 4 or 5 months. I’m 54 and post menopausal. I had to give up the fat bombs, limit the keto cookies/cakes and add intermittent fasting and I’ve lost about 60 lbs since last August. Goal weight is only 0.6 lbs away!!!
