Hardest Day?

(Jeff) #1

I’m about 20 day on Keto. I’m at our local fair (PNE). Mini donuts and the smell of sugary oil is killing me. I walked by a 1000 trucks and found a salad with all the right toppings and no sugar oil and vinegar dressing

Then I cried…and cried. Not literally, but it really sucks!

What was your hardest day that you didn’t cave?

This made me laugh because the first time I got kicked out of ketosis (on accident with veggies), I literally cried the next day from starvation, exhaustion, and carb cravings. It was pathetic. Good job on staying keto!

They’ve all been fairly easy. But it was around day 5 that I decided I wanted “one last sandwich”…plus all the other food options didn’t look very filling. This was after trying to eat keto in the hospital, after my cancer diagnosis and starting treatment, while pregnant. After discharge we had a small party for one of my kids birthdays, and I had the “one last sandwich”, with full plans to hit keto afterwards. Of course, when I was pregnant I was only focusing on cutting out bread, pasta, and potatoes, but ate normally otherwise.

I started with a 4 day water fast followed by dropping completely and cold turkey all of my previously fave carb-loaded foods. That included: ice cream, frozen yoghurt, bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, chips, pretzels, beer, wine and coffee liqueur. Pastries not so much, but a few like choc chip cookies and a rare Nanaimo bar. I went a full 12 months without touching any of them. Never missed them a bit.

The OPs question was about your hardest day @amwassil - clearly you didn’t have any which is nice for you but a bit off topic yeah?

:innocent:

PS: I thought it useful to acknowledge not everyone here is pining away for the good old days before keto.

Every day. I work in a bakery and before that a donut shop. I find the irony hilarious.
Customer : what’s your favorite?
Me: none. I don’t eat sugar.
Customer : wide eyed and stuttering now lol
Alternatively
What’s your favorite one?
Oh you should try the maple whisky because you know…whisky. or oh I just love the cheesecake.
Customer : Oohh ya I’ll take 6 of those.

I take an odd sick pleasure in knowing that I have more control, willpower, and better health than the customers and that helps keep me on track. But the fresh from the oven apple strudel and ice cream is definitely hard to resist some days.
