Ham bone - what do I do with it?

#1

My husband’s work gave him a ham. I threw away the “glaze” and cooked the ham. Is there anything I can do with the bone or give it the dog? Thanks

You could make a ham and vegetable soup?

I wouldn’t give it to the dog though. I thought smoked meats like ham etc weren’t good for dogs.

First Thought was Split Pea Soup
My fav comfort food classic😄
Not as Keto friendly, you can always modify or change up

Maybe something like this?

Cook and sing this🙂

Love me some split pea, especially with hock or hambone.

Shut up, stomach.

Well, given the amazing variety of dogs, breed matters. My very sweet dog Holly, is a pit. Consequently, she will break the toughest bone, a ham-bone, in around 5 minutes. That said, I give her a ham-bone and set a timer to 4 minutes. The splinters can kill her. There’s some great information about breed and best bones, but I’m all about sharing with the family pooch.

I was wondering the same thing. Can you make bone broth from a ham bone?

Yes! I usually strain off the veggies, eat them later so the collagen gets absorbed better; 4 four hour window before eating anything solid and if the parts your using has marrow, knuckles, and feet!

I give my dog ham bones and smoked ham hocks–it’s like crack for her…
