I did love some fruit, primarily because it tasted like “healthy” candy. So much sugar!

I know this was a candy vs fruit thread, but I do need to take a little detour …

Gastric acid in one’s stomach has a pH of roughly 1.5 to 3.0, i.e., extremely acidic.

Raspberries have a pH of between 7 and 6, i.e., neutral to ever-so-slightly acidic. My room temp home-fermented sauerkraut and pickles clock in at around 3.5 to 4.0 pH on my litmus test strips before I move them to the fridge.

I’m fairly skeptical about the old tale that acidic foods cause and/or exacerbate acid reflux, and certainly not raspberries, which have about the same pH as bananas.

On a personal note: I suffered from GERD for years … that is, until I cut out the carbs. Then it instantly stopped and has never returned.

I eat all the highly acidic, spicy, peppered foods I still crave. No reflux at all. It was clearly the pizza crust at fault - not the toppings.

Besides, any food as acidic as stomach acid would burn your esophagus before it got chance to come back up.

Food for thought. :wink:

Same. GERD for years.
Poof. Gone. Ahhhhh….

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #7

In fact, one of the things I learned from these forums is that acid reflux, paradoxically, is caused, not by too much stomach acid, but by not having enough. Go figure!

Didn’t know this! Fascinating.

(Stickin' with mammoth) #9

Same. Did some experimenting and learned it was the grains.

So you’re saying . . . no grains, no pains? :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Fructose with fibre is good, but in limited quantity. Its to easy to eat to much, just like nuts.
Some fruits are better then others on keto.
