Gut Length & Diet (Carnivores, Omnivores, Herbivores)

Fish biologist here… Gut length in fish is related to their diet–herbivores have longer guts, carnivores have shorter guts. I was wondering if it’s the same for mammals and where humans would fall on this spectrum.

Beware this first site is a vegan health site (I’m sure with their own agenda) and I did not check the resources they listed for the data.

This second site states “gut reduction began when early members of the genus Homo began to incorporate a greater amount of animal tissues” and “that cooking, which breaks down plants fiber and connective tissue in meat allowed early humans to extract more nutrients from foodstuff with less digestive effort.”

Just an interesting topic that got me thinking, and I wanted to share. Stay healthy all.
