Grocery Store Junk

(Marianne) #1

Made a trip to the grocery store to pick up some cottage cheese (haven’t had because of the higher carbs, but I am craving it and can work it into my plan), and a few other items. As I was walking through the aisles to get to where my items were, I was really struck by how much crappy food is in the grocery store. The stuff I need to purchase is limited to just a few areas; the rest of the store is all processed food. I looked at the packaging and thought, wow, this is all designed as a hook to get people to buy junk. Believe me, I was there. Now that I have lost my carb cravings, it all looks like poison to me. I feel bad for kids and people still eating mass quantities of this - just like I was doing up until two weeks ago. It is really sad. No wonder we suffer from so many health problems.

And now you know which areas of the store to go to and which to avoid, you’ll save loads of time in future.

Grocery shopping definitely takes a lot less time now that I’m eating LCHF and doing a 3 day extended fast every week. The only rules I need when grocery shopping are:

  1. Never buy anything with more than 1 ingredient
  2. Never buy anything that fits through the holes in my colander
  3. Never buy anything that grows below ground.

That basically wipes out 99% of the items in the store, and keeps me happily in ketosis. My grocery bill is 70% smaller these days, and I’ve dropped 3 belt notches in 6 weeks. I think I like keto.

I think that when I look at the grocery ads too. I wonder if people realize how little actual food the store sells, it’s mostly just product

The entire middle of my grocery store is dedicated to heart disease and diabetes. I like that I only need to shop the perimeter and a just a few of the outside aisles. They really want the low carb shoppers to walk the furthest from the registers but I don’t mind because I have plenty of energy. :sunglasses:
