Grocery Cart Content - peek a boo I am watching you

Ok
I know this was mentioned before
It some form or reply

I admit
I 100% PURPOSELY look at shoppers food contents in grocery carts while shoppping or in line
My obsession
My addictionšŸ˜„
For a long time
Sometimes it leads to decent conversation too

And I play the FN series ā€œ Chopped ā€œ
What can I make with just their cart contentsšŸ¤”
And will I win if this was ā€œ Guys Grocery Games ā€œ:thinking:
:joy:

With that said, today I was at Winco
To get kerrygold butter , some braggs ACV, and some chicken thighs
Wanted corned beef, but they were oos
Btw—KG was $2.88 , now it’s $3.01 there :rage:

Cart Content of others -

Insane now!!
So bad
The increase in junk , carbage , sugar, and processed whatever is getting so out of control!!
It’s getting close to 80% - 90% of the food I personally observe per cart … All nutrient deficient
Families with Children stocking up for the work and school week
Cart after Cart
Every single shopping trip

Emotionally, I get upset, angered, and just sadšŸ˜“

Thankfully, this WOE keeps the above just temporary
But it still lingers around my thoughts
I do care

I doubt I’m the only one
Right?
Haha

I mind my business. I don’t know people’s stories, most people are still probably shopping based on how they’ve been told is healthy. Or based on what they can afford. Or maybe they just don’t care and are living their junk-food-filled lives to their fullest. Either way, not my business.

I peek too! When I first started Keto I was a little embarrassed and very conscious of people looking at what I had in my cart -all the fats and red meat. But now I know better and I do pay attention to what other people who ā€œshop the inside aislesā€ put in their carts and in their mouths. Lots and lots of processed food, very few fresh veggies and bags and bags and boxes of garbage - chips, cereal, rice, corn, etc. Makes me grateful I’m not there anymore but I do admit it does tempt me to want to ā€œketovangelizeā€

I’m always shocked by the amount of sodas in other people’s carts…recently I’ve noticed the more sodas (even diet) in the cart, the heavier the potential buyer.

I notice too what people have in their shopping carts and its sad. I know my cart looked very similar pre-keto. I would never say anything to anyone although I do amuse myself by imaging when Im with my kids, just pulling carbage randomly out of someones cart, explaining to my kids what is so bad about it, then putting it back into their cart with a smile. Of course, again, I would never do that in real life.

has anyone thought that maybe these people are stocking up for a month and buy the majority of their fruit, veggies and meat at the veggie shop and butcher?? Just because it goes in their cart, doesn’t mean that is all they are eating?? I know I still stock up on 2 minute noodles for my teenage boys because i choose to eat this way but they don’t. I find it very interesting to see what people buy but I don’t think we can draw any great conclusions from it.

It doesn’t matter where you peek in my cart . You can tell I don’t eat garbage. When I look in others carts I am just noticing what they have in there. It’s not that I am feeling superior. It is more like I am sad that they don’t know or worse don’t care about how a poor diet can ruin their health.

I can’t but help looking at other people’s groceries. I am secretly hoping to find someone who is LCHF but alas I have struck out every time. If I do notice someone LCHF, I might be tempted to say hello because I feel a certain comraderie to people who don’t eat processed food. In general, I expect them to be much more amiable than people who eat poison regularly.

No one would be able to tell from my cart. I buy my keto stuff and my husband and son buy their non keto stuff. So it’s a mixed cart.

I peek mostly because I want to see how much stuff they have in general, and how long it’ll possibly take me to get the F out of the store and move on with my day.

But while I’m looking, I notice things. I make judgments inwardly, but more on ā€œOh no I hate that brand, yuckā€. I try to be a healthy person, but ya know, in the past, my cart has contained some abysmal choices.

If I’m being honest, the things that annoyed me most were some really in shape women buying all junk food. Maybe it wasn’t for her, maybe it was. But I was jealous anyway lol. I probably gained a pound just looking at her purchases.

I admit I am a voyeur also. But it makes me sad for these people’s bodies and minds. Once I was behind a cart full of cheap sugary cereals. The lady said she was buying food for her Day Care center. Poor babies.

Thinking back a few years ago, right after Easter I was behind a woman who literally had an entire cart full of Peeps. I asked her ā€œHey, do you happen to like Peeps?ā€ lol. She went on to tell me that she and her husband like to take them out of their packaging, let them get stale, and eat them this way. All 2,454,459 of them.

I do have to shake my head (figuratively) when I see an electric shopping cart loaded with Mountain Dew, sugary snacks and all highly processed food. Driven by a obese person who is in such joint pain it is difficult to walk. Marketing by food producers and the government eating guidelines is largely to blame IMO.
