Great doctor experience

(Mandy) #1

Hi all,

I had a yearly physical today. I will not get blood work back for a few days of course but my experience with my doctor and sharing my keto life was very positive. I was a little worried about how she might react. The nurse was very excited about my keto life saying “oh good for you. i’ve read keto is supposed to be very good”. My doctor asked if I had lost any weight or inches. When I said I had lost only a couple pounds but several inches in my stomach, she said “well the inches are the important part”. I’m pleased so far. I am anxious to see my results but I can say that my blood pressure was 110/70 which is the lowest its been in 6 years.

KCKO!

Yea!!!

Inches count the most. At least in my book they do. Report back labs if possible.

(Mandy) #3

I certainly will!

I want that blood pressure! Definitely report back.

Hey all,

Got my results back. Overall I’m pleased but I did notice a slight increase in ldl and decrease in hdl.

2016 results
Total cholesterol : 168
Triglycerides : 82
Hdl: 93
Ldl: 59
Non hdl: 75
Vldl: 16

2018 results
Total cholesterol : 165
Triglycerides : 58
Hdl: 78
Ldl: 75
Non hdl: 87
Vldl: 12

Edit : in 2016 I was eating a fairly normal American diet.

Your triglyceride/HDL ratio is excellent.

Thanks… I agree. A bummer about this physical, for some reason (probably insurance related) they did not test my potassium or sodium. No liver enzyme test either. That kinda sucks.

(Empress of the Unexpected) #8

That is weird. Usually they do a complete lipid panel. Maybe you are young enough they are not worried about the rest?

(Mandy) #9

Hmm… I dunno. They did all of the tests in 2016. I was really looking forward to seeing what my levels of minerals were since starting keto.

(Empress of the Unexpected) #10

You should find out next time you’re in. I would be bummed too, especially as sodium and potassium are so important on keto.

(Mandy) #11

I spoke too soon. More results came in later. My potassium was good but my sodium was low… Good grief. Hard to believe with my salt intake. I got a few other alarming results.

bilirubin, urine : positive
Blood, urine: positive
Bacteria, urine: present
Mucous, urine: present

Pretty concerned with this. Definitely need to speak to her or another kind of doctor.

(Empress of the Unexpected) #12

Yeah, I saw that in your other thread. One cause of low sodium is overhydration. Could that have been a possibility the day of your test? Was there a number by the blood in urine? Mine came back as a 2 and doctor shrugged it off. But the bacteria does sound like an infection. Are you taking any medications that could change the results?

(Mandy) #13

Hmm… My test was at 730am so it’s unlikely I got enough water in before the test… Ha. I don’t think I drink excessively. Probably half my body weight in ounces or so.

No number, just said moderate. Every time I have a physical, I have trace amounts. I suppose when it goes to moderate, there may be cause for concern.

I don’t take any prescription medications… A few supplements. Very strange indeed. I made an appointment with a urologist to try to get to the bottom of it.

let us know how it goes.

Just had tests last week. Came out low sodium. The doc said I am drinking too much water-wtf? And there was blood in my urine at 50. Everything else normal. Had a Cat Scan said kidneys normal. I just don’t know!!!

(the cheater) #16

There could be any number of reasons you might have blood in urine, most of which aren’t serious. And I’m not surprised sodium was low unless you’re going out of your way to consume extra salt. I was literally salting all of my food and drinking a hydroflask full of water with a few of those small cafeteria salt packets in it, as well as eating already salty foods (Spam, etc.) and my sodium was perfect.

(Mandy) #17

I have always had trace amount of blood in my urine, as has my mother. That seems normal for me. I Think my doc was concerned that it went from trace to moderate. I am still waiting on my urologist appointment as these guys take months to see, par for the course. I know I am not drinking too much water. I only drink when my body says to do so. I’m not one to drink in excess just because i’m told how much I should drink. I have drastically increased my salt intake with extra salt on food as well as salt caps. I think we all underestimate how much salt we really need.

(Carole) #18

Did they rule out uti before urologist? I am really not one to trust the doctors. Everything is about money these days!

(Mandy) #19

UTI was ruled out but yeah, agree. it can be pretty frustrating.

Ugh lol!
