science
fasting
food

So, for some background information:
Me: 50 (almost 51) year old male
Started my Ketogenic journey on July 15th 2019
Starting weight: ~320
Current weight: 272.4 (taken this morning)
On Friday I had my fasting blood glucose drawn and it came back as 104. I have never had it that high, fasted. Could this be an example of Physiological Insulin resistance? and if so, does it correct itself?
I thought I was already fat adapted, I fast 18-20 hours a day 5 days a week.

Thoughts?

That’s an example. Mine seems to vary from below 100 to over 100, for reasons not clear to me. You could fast more beforehand, and that would drop it. However, that would make your lipid values go the wrong way.

Jason Fung has several times addressed the high glucose reading during fasting. He says it is the body releasing stored glucose as your body draws on its stores. Google it, a couple of podcasts talked about it. Sorry I don’t have the links with me right now.

Congratulations!!

104 isn’t great if that’s always your fasted number, but blood glucose fluctuates a fair amount (and can jump right after exercise, for example). If you want to keep a closer eye on yours, you can get a glucose monitor and take readings regularly for a while until you see the trends.

I just found his blog post on that. Thank you, all of you, for steering me in the right direction. I didn’t think I was getting sicker.
Everyone on this forum has been super helpful!
