Im still very knew here and its difficult to get my head around when all my life ive been told fats are bad etc etc, im finding this to be untrue.
But my question is whilst consuming fats should i be looking for unsaturated fats or are saturated fats just as good as thats currently what mine mainly consist off, its all very confusing to me
Good n bad fats
Saturated fat will help raise your HDL, which is a good thing. Monounsaturated fat is burned for energy. Polyunsaturated fats are generally to be avoided, because they aren’t particularly useful to the body, and they can make you feel ill. The two exceptions to that are the omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which are essential, you have to have some every day. But you need them in the right proportion, because they fight to be absorbed by the same pathway in the body, so too much of one prevents the other from doing you any good. Also, you don’t want too much omega-6, even though you have to have some, because it causes inflammation if you have too much.
Most vegetable oils are very high in polyunsaturated fatty acids, and should therefore be avoided. For better-quality fats, stick to butter, lard, tallow, bacon grease, and oils such as olive, avocado, and coconut, which are all rich in saturated and monounsaturated fat.
