God’s blessings fellow ketonians if you have any suggestions on this subject I would greatly appreciate it. I’m so back in a corner on this diet and need some solid info to help me confirm my action taken in this. Good bless🙏
Good books that include sodium on a Ketogenic diet
Don’t know any books to recommend, but there are several lectures that Dr. Phinney gave on “The Art and Science of Low-carb Living” at various events sponsored by Low Carb Down Under, which you can view on their YouTube channel. According to him, the kidneys allow much more salt to be excreted when you’re ketotic, so you really need to increase your salt intake on a ketogenic diet. Also, according to various sources, including Gary Taubes, there is about as much science behind the fear of salt as there is behind the fear of fat. I have even heard that 5 grams of salt is a reasonable daily dose, so I wouldn’t worry.
The dudes have an episode on this
The guy also has a book called The Salt Fix which is a good read
I second the recommendation of “The Salt Fix”, that book is a game changer. Much like keto does with fat intake, The Salt Fix turns the conventional wisdom of limiting sodium on its head.
And of course, there is the book of the same name: “The Art and Science of Low-carb Living”
(with Jeff Volek). There is a fair amount in there about salt, and many other things of course.
I finally got myself a paperback copy of The Art and Science of Low-carb Living this week. I’ve been a hold-out because I love audiobooks but it’s time I read it, it’s probably the most highly regarded low-carb book I have yet to consume. I’m not afraid to actually read but man are audiobooks nice with Seattle traffic being what it is these days.
