Hello, I have been on the keto diet for about a month now…I am going away to be a staff member at kids camp and I heard all the food is “kid food”
I am most likely not going to be able to cook myself, sooo how can I stay on this diet with out checking labels? I mean common sense I have an idea on carbs in certain food but seriously how do people survive on this diet in situations like that? I am not sure I will have a refrigerator in my room either…maybe you guys can post some keto friendly food non parishable I can pack in my bag…
please help
Going away, how to stay on keto
Beef jerky , Pork Rinds , Nuts of some short that’s all that’s coming to my mind at this point .
Cheese…
In this situation, you can only do what you can do. Stay away from the bread, potatoes, and sugar.
Tell the kitchen you are on a fat based diet and are not allowed any simple carbs. That you would be better to eat butter than pizza. I bet they will help you out.
Pederson’s Farm fully cooked bacon - no sugar added non cured no nitrates…sold in travel pack of two slices… no need to refrigerate.
Hard cheeses, jerky if you can find unsweetened, pork rinds, macadamia nuts. There’s some Keto granola (not really Granola) recipies you could make and portion ahead of time and pack with you.
And I would see if the kitchen could at least offer you some eggs. I don’t think that an unreasonable request.
As @Anniegirl9 suggests with the eggs and take some cans of tuna in your bag. Eggs and tuna = survival food.
If this were me, these would be in my bag
macadamia nuts
sardines
hot sauce
pork rinds
beef jerky
They come in pouches now (tuna), so it would be supper easy to pack.
I’d even try bringing a jar or avacado oil mayo and ask the kitchen if you could keep it in the fridge and mark it with your name on it.
If you’re at a kids camp they’re probably prepared with all sort of alternatives because of the crazy amount of allergies today’s children seem to have.
Avocados keep - just buy a few green ones to use toward the end of the week. You may need to cut them in the kitchen unless you’re permitted a knife in your room.
Travel packs of tuna.
Sometimes when I don’t know what to eat but know that I am hungry and I need fat, I just eat a spoon of coconut oil. You could keep a jar of that with you.
If you’re a coffee drinker, put some HWC and butter in the kitchen fridge to add to your morning coffee.
Variety of nuts. Pack in known-carb-serving size baggies to keep from going overboard
.
I think you can buy olives in small lunch size containers.
