I’ve been using stevia glycerite, but noticed vegetable glycerin as the first ingredient. In my research I find that glycerin is a carbohydrate, and is similar in calories to sugar! Also, I’ve read that it doesn’t increase blood glucose initially, but does have a delayed increase in blood glucose. I wouldn’t worry except that I use it in large amounts (2 Tbs/day) in coconut milk shakes. Does anyone have any experience or advice for using stevia glycerite on a ketogenic diet? Dang! I keep running into “fake” sweet things that I can’t have because of insulin response or ketone reduction. I just can’t seem to beat the obsession with sweet things.

Glycerine is the other lesser known substrate for gluconeogenesis. I was thinking of adding some to ketoaide to act as a slow carb source for endurance training. As far as an everyday sugar substitute, I would think it’s a bad idea.
