Not really sure what I’ve changed, but my ketones have gone down and glucose has gone up. I’ve had a few days when my GKI was under 3, but most of the time it’s been rather high. I’ll post pics later.
GKI Going Up
At the risk of telling you things you probably already know…
From what I’ve read, to get your GKI lowest, it’s important to make sure you are getting plenty of fat and not too much protein while keeping your carbs as low as possible. Exogenous ketones (coconut oil, MCT) may help and fasting is a great tool for driving ketone levels higher.
What are you doing? Fasting? Fasting with supplements? Keto with OMAD?
There are many drives for GKI, so it would be helpful to understand your protocol and if anything is changing.
Keep in mind that increase in glucose can be a strong function of cortisol driven my non-dietary changes like sleep and stress.
Been doing OMAD for several months now.
I’m going back to trying to limit my protein, and eating plenty of fat. Sometimes my OMAD turns into a 22-23/2-1 hour eating window, depending on if I feel hungry later.
Currently I weigh about 115lbs. I’m getting about 7hrs of sleep, but getting up a few hours later than I was in May (summer, so things are shifted a bit later).
I don’t really want to do fasting very often, and usually OMAD works well for me…but its summer vacation now.
Mostly posting to vent a bit, and also to get ideas. Just feeling frustrated.
I’m going to try switching MCT powders again, see if there is a change. That’s one difference I’ve noted…
I have an MCT tea every morning and have been using nuts lately to substitute for fats a lot.
I stopped checking blood sugar and ketones for a week and only watched the net carbs and aimed to eat to fullness making sure I at least hit my fat levels.
So know that you may need to vent but you have helped me.
Today I checked after a week and was at a ketone level of 1.1 vs .3 or .6.
I find I do better by having a small 1gNC breakfast. Then either one big meal at the end of the day or split it into 3. OMAD is very hard for me. I have tried it but find it is just too much food for me at one time.
