Giving up my beloved PB

(Michelle) #1

So… heard this cardiologist on Livin la Vida Low Carb and he explained the link between beans and heart disease. Did anyone else hear? Anyway, I bought the book, and depending on what I read, this could be the break up I was not looking forward to…

I heard it. He comes down really hard on foods containing lectins. His list of foods to avoid completely is longer than most lists, for example pumpkin and sunflower seeds are on Noake’s Green List in the Real Meal Revolution, but Dr Gundry bans them. Not sure what to think.
Might be good as basis for an elimination diet, start off simple then introduce foods one at a time to test your own sensitivity. It all boils down to n=1.

Love this!!!

I think the presence of lectins in foods is just another piece of information to use when determining what foods to eat whether that is SAD/SWD, LCHF, or keto. If someone has inflammation or auto-immune issues, or experiencing stalls then considering the impact of lectins and eliminating those foods would be a good strategy.

Awesome, made me LOL

Unless something definitively makes me ill at this moment, I’m not giving anything else up.

It’s just where I’m at. After a VERY successful 3 years ketogenic, restricting anything more drives me cray cray.

You can take myfuckingpeanut butter out of my cold dead hand.

BTW @Fiorella, that is me in that meme.

Braveheart meme all the things!
This is awesome.

I’ve toyed with the idea of giving up nuts (the dreaded “STALL”) but sometimes a scoop of PB is like a giant hug at the end of the day. So… I wouldn’t be opposed to it really, but I don’t feel like it’s totally necessary. I think that when you look at the title that talks about “healthy” foods and plants and weight gain we know, from studying keto, that it could be more insulin related issues that are behind the effects of plants on a diet. I doubt my seven tablespoons of PB a month are going to be what makes or breaks me. Or maybe I’m just justifying.

Yeah, nuts are fine for me. Peanuts are beans though, and I know they are inflammatory. Dr. Gundry talks about these lectins and how bad they are for your body. They are found in beans and wheat products ( and other things as well). Particularly bad for heart health. He’s a cardiologist.

I will read the book and then make my decision. I’m addicted to PB. I have way more than 7 tbs a month. Hard to stop cause it’s so yummy.

It’s certainly worth investigating! I, too, like me some PB. I mean, there’s always switching to almond butter?

(Jacquie) #12

I listened to the podcast, too. Here’s a link to a visual of his food pyramid. Some of it works for me but a lot of it doesn’t. Take what works and leave the rest. P.S I don’t eat peanut butter (pro-inflammatory for me).

I have to give up peanut butter. It definitely effects my Atrial Fibrillation in a bad way.:heartbeat::heart::flushed:

Love Peanut Butter…love Almond Butter…love Hazelnut Butter…unfortunately that’s my problem & only a whole jar will do
