Getting ready to come back to Keto

(Christine Marie Benvenuti) #1

Well…CARBS SUCK!!! I was on Keto for a couple of months a while back…i lost about 10 lbs.
I made the mistake of getting frustrated with the slow weight loss, and opted to try a different approach. BIG MISTAKE!!!

I WANT MY ENERGY BACK!!!

MY MAIN QUESTION IS THIS…
AS A 51 YEAR OLD WOMAN WHO IS IN THE BEGINNING OF MENOPAUSE, AND HAS A AN UNDERACTIVE THYROID…what is the best approach to seeing a continual loss? I need to lose about 125 lbs. I was told by one person that thyroid issues need to be treated differently with Keto…like every few weeks adding a bit more carb for a weekend. I don’t know. All i do know is i was never hungry…had better energy etc… i lost that 10 lbs the first 2 weeks, and then NOTHING…
PLEASE HELP!!!

Welcome back to keto! The women on these forums say that the pattern of weight loss is different for most women and is affected by hormones. I can’t speak to the menopause part, but I know that it’s not wise for women to expect rapid, continuous weight loss, because it usually doesn’t happen that way. But from what I’ve seen so far (I’m fairly new here, myself) many women have lost enormous amounts of weight on keto, despite any difficulties they had. So keep calm, keto on, and let the women here tell you how they did it.

Thank you…i had heard that about Keto for women…i guess i just need to be more patient. Perhaps adding more MCT oil per day would be helpful.

From what I’ve been reading, the weight comes off in fits and starts for everyone. I myself had an experience a few weeks ago where my weight on Thursday was suddenly 20 lbs. lighter than it had been on Tuesday. Still can’t figure that one out. My best guess is that it came off my butt, because my waist hadn’t changed.

How such a large amount of weight left is a mystery, because I wasn’t urinating or defecating in huge quantities. Although I’m not quite sure I entirely believe my scale, either. If you weigh yourself on it several times in a row, the weights will vary anywhere within about a 10 lb. range. That means it’s possible, even probable, that Tuesday’s reading was at the high end of the range, and Thursday’s at the low end, and the actual loss wasn’t as large as it appeared.

So anyway, I’m now paying more attention to how my clothes are fitting than to the scale. I’m going to have to drill a couple of extra holes in my new belt, and I’ve already gotten rid of one pair of jeans that is now too large. I wore some shorts yesterday that I couldn’t even get over my butt back in March, so I’m happy.

Yes, patience is one of the most important ingredients in a keto diet.

It took me many months to lose 25 pounds and I’ve stalled out. I put this down partly to my advanced age–wonky hormones, a body accustomed to extra fat for many years, etc.

What’s the alternative? If I give up in frustration there’s nowhere to go but the place that brought me huge hips, flabby thighs, a round face, and xxx clothing sizes. I don’t want to go there again, regardless of how long it takes me to lose the bit.

Thank you for your response. Keto on.

I’m a 60 year old woman, so obviously past menopause. I didn’t have a lot to lose, but I lost a few pounds in water weight the first two weeks. Then nothing, until week 8 or 9 I believe. Your body needs time to adjust, and repair other issues. You will lose, I promise. Just stick to it and ask us any questions you have.
