Getting enough

(Robbi) #1

I have been successful in keeping my carbs low but I am having problems getting enough fat in. What are some ways to help get 100 grams that I need in?

Eat fat to satiety, if you aren’t hungry stop eating.

I do eat to satiety but still not getting the 100 g of fat I need in.

Add Butter to whatever you are eating…instant fat increase.

I have a similar issue on my long run days when I need several hundred CALs from fat.

Like Z says above, add butter.

Also, use MCT oil (I use a cheap version from the local vitamin shop) and olive/avocado oil in a smoothie, those grams add up quick and you won’t get stomach distress from consuming them this way.

More butter! You can easily add fat by adding another tbsp on top of your _____(anything).
Or make yummy fat bombs! You won’t even realize they’re essentially pure fat since most are like a decadent little dessert

I am afraid to drink smoothies because they seem to have a lot of carbs. But I will try and add more May oil to things I eat.

I have sever fat bomb recipes that Have have but yet to make.

Here’s a super easy fat bomb. Cook some ground up churizo or other fatty meat, add it to some cream cheese, add a little seasoning as you like, toss in some shredded parmesan cheese, make into small balls, put in the freezer for 30 minutes, enjoy! LOTS of fat but they don’t make you feel stuffed.

As for smoothies, look for low carb options like almond milk, heavy cream, plan protein powder (if using protein powder at all), sugar free coconut, cinnamon, whole almonds, things like that.

Listening to keto talk Q&A from keto cruise and Dr. Nally hit on this, saying not to get wrapped around the axles about hitting numbers/macros, as jmbundy stated, eat to satiety and don’t stress. It is good advice (as are the other suggestions here if you REALLY feel you HAVE to hit that number).

Fat to satiety isn’t a number, I don’t care what MFP says. Eat until you are full, stop when you are, eat when you get hungry.

#12

I’m curious, who or what says you “need” 100g of fat?

(Robbi) #13

Just a Keto calculator that I entered my info into said I should be eating 100 g.

(ManMythLegend) #14

Just watch your carbohydrate and protein intake and don’t worry about meeting the fat if you feel you can’t eat anymore. Whatever fat you don’t put on your plate will come off your body because your metabolism will do what it needs to do to get the energy it needs. If you get hungry after you’ve met your carb and protein limit for the day then go ahead and make some of those fat bombs and have at them! If you’re not hungry and you’ve met your protein intake for the day just let it go and don’t worry about it.

why track grams of fat? I don’t get it. the concept of calculating grams of fat does not make sense to me. Just eat fat to satiety…who cares what the app says.

(Ros R) #16

That keto calculator confused me too. Hit your protein and carb targets and you’ll be fine. This article put it into perspective for me: https://intensivedietarymanagement.com/who-needs-to-avoid-fat-bombs-and-bpc/

Nothing like adding some avocado oil to your avocados! That’ll definitely up the fat grams!
