Hi. Just getting back into keto. I’ve been on and off for several years. I keep sabotaging myself. Don’t know why. I feel and look amazing when I stick to it. Then stress/life gets in the way and I turn back to my old habits of carb bingeing and regain weight.
So fed up! Does anyone have any tips on how to stay consistent? I thought maybe posting might help me feel accountable.
81.9kg today.
IBW probably around 65kg
Getting back on track
You should probably examine the “why” of the sabotage…
As an ex T2 diabetic I stick to the plan to maintain my eyes and toes which is a pretty strong driver.
Plus I try to only eat things I really like.
Being almost carnivore makes it easier because I don’t have to count the very few carbs I take in (mostly from milk and cream) so there is less room to over indulge.
Keeping it simple and having a good “why” helps a lot.
Edit to add sorry just saw it was your first post… so hi and welcome too!
Yea I know this I can relate.
One day I woke up and got a new mantra I said to myself over and over.
No matter what. No matter what I will not go off plan. No matter what today not one excuse will make me eat off my desired plan. No matter what people get in my face I will not waiver for the old…try one bite of this…nope. No matter what I will hold strong.
Hey it worked for me LOL
But I realized I needed and wanted this change.
You have to want it truly.
And another thing I did was eat so gloriously. I ate tons of crab legs I adore. I ate monster ribeye steaks I love to no end. I ate big crispy country spare ribs I fancy and lap up the grease on those things. Monster jumbo shrimp in old bay butter as a side dish to my wonderful meatloaf I make and love.
All the foods you love and adore, the tastes you want, eat those and smile while doing it. I had to be happy eating this way til I could change up my food more as my hunger decreased. And it did, I came off ‘needing’ the most top of the line delish foods I required and could become more stable in my day with my foods.
I did not cheat myself on the most wonderful meals I loved. I ate them like crazy and a lot of it. I helped me thru.
Knowing the family was eating chicken parmesan that night…I would eat 2 lbs. of crab legs and then my kid would say…I don’t want the spaghetti, I want the crab legs HAHA
So get a few tricks that work for you and never against you.
and you got to want this. Just cause we can eat whatever and not gain don’t mean your blood sugar ain’t flying around and causing trouble in your body…what we don’t see…get us in the end. So that sugar is doing damage, you just ain’t feeling it yet
So work on your thoughts. How you attack this big change. All working in your favor………but you must want it. Or it won’t happen.
Plan and visualize. Come up with a plan for every meal, shop and be prepared. Don’t find yourself hungry and in front of carby foods. Carry around car/bag snacks just in case (I always have a can of Vienna Sausages or sardines on me). I keep chicken bullion cubes on the shelf at work. Worse case scenario it fills a tummy until you can get something because the cookies a customer brought isn’t an option.
The mental side of things is trickier and the other two covered it well.
Thanks for the encouragement! I love the mantra. You’re all totally right. I really want this. I think my biggest “why” is my mental health. I get so depressed and irritable on sugar.
When I sabotage myself it’s usually to make myself feel better (30 min sugar high) but then a massive carb addiction just means I’ve got one more problem to add to the list! I need to work on non-food strategies as relaxation methods.
Thanks again to all x
Welcome to the forum =).
I agree with the others; just keep reminding yourself of all the benefits and how much better you will feel and how much healthier you will be, on Keto. Now that you have found this fabulous forum, you will soon see that we all understand and are here to support and encourage you. This personally has been a really big help and keeps me focused. I wish you all the best in your Keto journey.
I think this is a big key. Eat the food you love and find delicious, and it will be much easier to stay on plan.
Keto eating suits me very well (and my husband). We both love rich food and eat very little veggies. I make a “keto soup,” (basically heavy cream and cheddar cheese), that has become a staple. It is so good, it is almost obscene. I mean, I still can’t believe we can eat like this and lose weight! “Normal” people couldn’t eat my soup - it would make them fat because of all the carbage they eat. So, moral of the story is, find the keto foods you really enjoy and let every meal be something you look forward to.
You said it all…other’s can’t do my pound of bacon in a day with a big old ribeye cause coupled with carbs they would be out of control on their health. But take away the carbs, the decadence of our meats, the keto soup mentioned and more is just wonderful.
