Getting back into ketosis after a naughty

(Gemma) #1

Just a quick question…

Theoretically speaking…If one was to consume a lot of carbs one evening then the next morning a zero was read on a breath test…If a 0.03 was read 24 hours after the consumption of said carbs, would one be back in ketosis OR is the breathalyser a piece of rubbish and needs chucking in the bin? Seems awfully fast

Theoretically of course  heads off to my accountability thread to tell the truth :joy:

It might take a day or so to get back into producing ketones, depending on how much carbohydrate you ate. (Theoretically, of course!) If you are fat-adapted, your muscles will most likely return to metabolising fat as soon as all that glucose has been cleared from your system.

The problem with measuring ketones, especially in breath and urine, is that you are measuring the amount of waste, not use. Even measuring circulating β-hydroxybutyrate in the blood indicates what hasn’t been used yet, not how much is actually being produced and used. I would suggest not worrying too much about it, concentrating instead on how to keep excessive carbohydrate intake as infrequent as possible. Theoretically speaking, of course! :grinning:

Ha! I’m only theoretically laughing my a##off here.

You will be back on track in no time, Gemma =).

Just forget it and carry on.
Be as active as possible to burn through the glycogen.

Thank you  yes I think it’s going in the bin it’s just another thing to get obsessed with number wise.

Gemma I’ve just noticed your username and like you more already as I spend a lot of time looking after water birds :joy:

(Gemma) #8

Aww that’s lovely, I will be honest it was a random username that came to my head :joy: I think it’s a playground game from years ago that I never understood

The children all sit around in a circle, and one is the “goose” and that child runs around touching the heads of the others, calling “duck” as many times as they want on each child’s head, until they choose one to be “goose” so they can go " duck" “duck” “duck” – “goose” and than that child has to get up and do the same, as that child is the new “goose.” It is just a different version of tag and “you’re it.”
