Gas’

(Gary hoover) #1

My wife has been on keto for almost a yr now with me. She wanted me to ask you good people what causes a person to have a lot of gas. I mean a lot. She eats every thing I eat and I have none. We stick to everything that’s keto, nothing out of ordinary. Please help this women and me.

Different ingredients affect different people differently. Via trial and error I have found that Inulin is something that causes a lot of nasty gas for me.

For me, it’s cheese and sugar alcohols like maltitol.

Actually, for maltitol, I’m grateful it’s gas. :frowning:

I burp a lot too, so it’s not only gas in one direction.

Does she eat a lot of cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, cabbage, kale), or othe vegetables? Those cause gas for a lot of people. Also, if she is intolerant to dairy, that can be a symptom.

People with weak and/or leaky guts are prone to gas. She might do well with the autoimmune protocol (or carnivore), and adding in gelatin/bone broth to repair her gut.

She has kettle and fire bone broth every da for more than three yrs. that’s because of arthritis. She drinks no milk never ever. We stay with all keto veggies. Mostly Asparagus, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, small amounts of broccoli asparagus, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, small amounts of broccoli. Chicken beef fish pork very small amounts. Some nuts some cheese but very small amounts salads keto bars that’s it

Consider the keto bars, whatever they are. I’ll bet there is a sugar alcohol or glycerin in there causing problems. I never have gas on keto UNLESS I eat atkins bars.

No Akins. dr gustin (think his name) keto bars. Picture.

I see it has MCT oil and MCT oil powder. Some people have no problem with it, others get disaster pants and other GI issues. MCT oil murdered my intestines. They are buried in the next town over.

Seriously, at this point, she may need to omit one thing at a time to see what the offending food is.

Thanks. She takes mct oil 3 times a day but this seemed to just turn up she has been doing mct for long time

Potentially all of these, but likely the vegetables.

Interesting. Within two weeks of starting keto mine went away. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #12

Personally, I’d suspect the fibre in the Keto bars.

Thanks all

Those are cruciferous vegetables. I used to eat those every day for years and was always bloated and gassy, my body never got used to them. If I were your wife and really wanted relief from gas and bloat, I would eliminate them from my diet for a few weeks to see if it makes a difference.
