Gaining

#1

I have gained the last two weeks! I am a slave to Carb Manager. No drinking and no cheating at all. When I checked if I was in ketosis I was 3.2! The first three weeks I lost 19 pounds then it was slow and now I gained! What should I do?

It’s normal, weight will fluctuate at this point, don’t worry about it yet.

Are you tracking what you eat? We can help you better if you tell us what you are eating (and drinking) and when you are eating it. Also, tell us a bit about yourself (sex, weight, height and age).

How much did you gain? On average, we might gain a few pounds a year and arrive at a state of obesity in a decade so it’s unfair to judge our weight loss journey in days or even weeks. It’s all about the long term result.

Here’s one ketogenic weight loss graph I found and you will notice that gains and losses are part of the process. As long as the losses outweigh the gains, you are doing fine.

I track everything on Carb Manager. I stay in my macros. I drink water or polar seltzer’s. I am 44 F and weigh 175 and 5’8”. I added one of my days of tracking

#6

That makes me feel better. I just figured it would happen after I was doing it for a while

#7

How much are you looking to lose, because that’s a pretty good weight for that height?

Just be careful with the Russell Stover Sugar Free stuff. The sweetener used is Maltitol which is one of the worst artificial sweeteners out there. You’re only eating a small amount but it still might be spiking your blood sugar (and to a lesser extent so might the sucralose in the coffee-mate)

Water retention is very common for women. I have two weeks a month I retain water (5 pounds and ~3 pounds) so while I weigh in once a week, I really only monitor it once a month.

You are eating snacks. You want to try to eat meals and not snack in between. Also real food vs keto versions of real food are better.

You look like you are doing fine. Just keep going. You are having very few calories though. That’s ok if you’re not hungry, but this isn’t a diet where you are supposed to be hungry, so if you are hungry then eat more at your meal times.

If you’re not hungry just continue as you are doing. You are keeping the carbs very low and that’s the most important thing in the first six weeks, It’s even more important then losing weight. It’s easy to tweak things once you are fat adapted if you still aren’t losing weight then. But my guess is that you will be if you continue as you have begun.

19 pounds in 3 weeks is incredible especially when you don’t have that much to lose. The most I’ve ever lost in a month has been about 10 pounds and that was having more than you do to lose. So you probably have put on some water because at your lowest you might have been dehydrated. I second the stay away from fake sugar. My half sister was complaining that her weight wasn’t budging on very low carb but she insisted on having a keto ‘mug cake’ every night that she made with almond flour and artificial sweetener. She cut it out and she started dropping.

You should not worry about it : - )

Just make sure you don’t have any hidden carbs, everyone will say, “oh no not me”, until it happens.

I was fine with brand A yogurt, but brand B knocked me out. No big deal, it happens. Just keep moving forward. (I trust anything from a jar or factory even less now…)

If we nail the < 20g then keto is very forgiving. Eat a boat load of protein, fat, whatever, it sorts itself out.

I was my healthiest at 160. I gained about 40 pounds over the last few years and I don’t feel good with it. It really affects the energy I have and me working out. Thank you for encouragement

#15

OK
I will watch it. I only have the coffee-mate twice a week because I have heard that about the artificial sweeteners

Thank you

Thank you for the encouragement. I won’t get so discouraged.

It is hard to stay focused week to week. I guess I wanted to see big numbers every week and not a gain.
Thank you for the encouragement
