Hi I’m Megan I’m 17 and I’ve been doing keto on and off for a few months now and I’ve lost a total of about 30 pounds. I started at 192lbs. And now I’m 161lbs. I have always lost weight very rapidly with this diet, probably averaging about 5lbs per week, but recently I’ve stopped loosing weight and started gaining it! In the last few days my weight loss has halted and I have noticed the scale going up by .1-.2 lbs each day. Should I worry?
Gaining weight on keto?
Are you sure there aren’t extra carbs sneaking into your diet? I was going over carbs with dairy so decided to stop dairy for a month. I lost another three pounds the first few days off dairy. But weight lost on keto is not linear and there will be ups and downs. Just a really good idea to re-examine macros to meet your goals.
I’ve been trying to watch my carbs alot closer recently. I normally have eggs and bacon with coffee for breakfast, skip lunch, and have something like chicken, Steak, or a salad for dinner. Cutting out dairy sounds like a good idea though so I’ll give it a try
Just my experience with the dairy, and not saying I will never have it again, but I was seriously overdoing it. Some people need to back off nuts. It also sounds like you need way more fat in your diet. Like mayo, extra virgin olive oil, and butter. (I know, butter is dairy but most people don’t have any issues with it.). Make sure you are eating enough. When starting out the advice on the forum is “eat fat to satiety.” You will get a lot of good advice on this forum.
You’re fine. Minor weight fluctuations are normal, and usually due to some form of water retention. Rapid weight loss is normal for many in the beginning, but typically slows down as your body adapts and becomes more normal. Really, a one to two pound fat loss per week is what to expect, averaged over several weeks. To really stall, I consider it at least three or four weeks without loss. Be patient, that’s around 60 pounds in a year, or two five gallon buckets of fat. Probably not this year, but by next Summer you’ll be shopping for a new bathing suit. Take some good pictures of yourself, you’ll want them next Summer.
I leaned my son out the same way.
At 17, could you still be experiencing growth or development spurts? Women don’t tend to fully develop until a little latter, and the hips bones begin to spread some, which can add some extra weight/size.
Could just be a natural growth issue.
Nope, I’ve lost 35-40lbs in three months depending on the day and have a lot more than you to lose, it fluctuates. Just KCKO
Maybe some muscle gain too. You never know what your scale is actually measuring. And I agree about the natural growth thing too
