Why would I have gained? The last two days. Sunday no gain no loss and then today .4 gain. Only thing I did different was… Bacon. I was under calories and I didn’t feel hungry. I drank 2 litres of water and then some. I was losing 0.4-0.8 per day… I am doing this life change for weight loss as well as health, but really want the weight loss sooner than later (hence the calories)
I am 47
156lb
Eating only 20 net carbs (13 yesterday)
1058 carbs yesterday
82g fat
61g protien
Any help would be appreciated.
Gain?! So sad
Your gain was all water. Stop obsessing about the scale. It’s probably the least effective means to track progress.
It’s like the Biggest Loser candidates who dehydrated themselves to show false progress.
If you weighed yourself 10 times a day, you’d probably see gains and losses of a pound here, a pound there. Maybe even more.
Drink coffee: +0.5
Work out, dehydrate: -1.0
Drink water: +1.0
Bathroom break: -1.0
Eat lunch: +1.5
Eat dinner: +1.0
Day-to-day fluctuations don’t really mean anything and they can be upsetting to a lot of people. It’s the long-term (weeks, months) trend line that matters.
Okay. I will try to only weigh once a week. I usually weigh in as soon a s I get up and after using the bathroom. Same time in the morning usually and of course naked. I don’t weigh any other time. I know weight changes significantly throughout the day.
Thanks for the help on that.
You are in week 2? This is a long term process. Stick with it. I had a gain in week 3 after losing for the first two weeks.
Your body is adapting to the changes in food, give it time.
I think that this is a good idea, or stop altogether and go by how your body composition changes and how your clothes fit.
I stopped weighing myself because it was affecting my mood and I beat myself up about it, even though logically I know that daily fluctuations of a few pounds either way is normal.
I’m not against weighing daily necessarily, but I don’t think tracking weight is a meaningful metric below a 30 day moving average. Your 30 day moving average just moved 1 gram. Don’t worry about it.
Buy a flexible tape measure, or borrow one from a sewing kit. Measure waist and hips once a week/month. That will tell you a lot more!
I measured yesterday and all my measurements were over my initial measuring. Broke my confidence a little. I will measure again in the morning instead of the evening I guess and see. I started eating this way Dec 3 and so far 9 pounds. For that I am happy. I used to do the HCG diet but I worried about my health with that diet and I wanted more of a life change although I sure liked the fast weight loss on hcg ha ha. I don’t miss the diet itself. So, I will not weigh myself for a while and I will measure again. Thanks everyone.
I try to do something very similar - weigh in underwear first thing in the morning after using the bathroom. My weight measurement still fluctuates +/- 2 lbs at times. Not always, but you see big jumps now and then. It’s definitely disconcerting when it seems to happen for no reason.
KCKO
My weight when I first wake up is always at least several pounds less than when I go to bed and I’ve had swings of more than ten pounds.
Weekly average is good, but even then, don’t let it make you crazy.
It’s water. 0.4 lbs is a tad under 8oz. of water. Drink a 16oz glass and gain a pound if you really want to upset yourself!
I weigh almost everyday to monitor myself, I am in maintenance. However, I never get upset even when I go up and down a few pounds. I always drop it again so I don’t worry about it. If this is beyond your capabilities I suggest you not weigh in regularly. You’re looking for trends, not daily linear weight loss progress. Too many factors affect daily weight as @ajbennett mentioned above.
Agreed, nothing inherently wrong with weighing every day. But I think that a lot of people struggle with it mentally and emotionally, especially those who have histories of eating disorder and/or body dysmorphia.
@Scobie another tool for tracking (in addition to the tape measure and how your clothes feel) is to take weekly progress photos.
You are female so your hormonal cycle over the course of the month will also affect water retention. Like mentioned: it’s overall trend that matters.
This. Salt intake, hydration, bowel movement or not, 4lbs change in 24h is not uncommon. Any carb intake will influence the scale, 100g carbs will add 500g weight (100g glycogen + 400g water).
Long-term gains may be due to buildup of muscle mass, and you’re still losing fat.
I weigh in every day because I’m curious about my progress, but I don’t fuzz over my weight. Enough motivation from losing 30 pounds over the last year despite not being able to do any exercise.
The thing is: With daily fluctuations of +/- 2lbs I’ll get more accurate readings if I track my weight long time and look at the average.
I went from 221 on Friday to 227.8 on Monday morning after a weekend off the lchf wagon to 220.6 on Tuesday after a 24 hour fast and two hours of jiu jitsu. Your body is elastic. I would not get caught up in small swings. It’s TRENDS that you need to assess.
