Fybogel in keto

#1

Does anyone know how taking fybogel affects the body and what sweetener is used in it? I have searched the net and can’t find anything definitive. I have noticed weight gain and feeling tired /slow recently, I eat once or twice per day, I have not cheated since starting on keto and not sure what to think. Sorry if this question had already been asked, nothing popped up in the search. Thanks for reading

Aspartame.

How’s your salt intake?

#4

A small sachet (fast food restaurant type) with every glass of water , 8+ per day

Thanks, never thought of looking at the box ! Duh :yum: so this can’t be the culprit

People sometimes react to one of the non-sugar sweeteners with elevated insulin. It seems to be a completely individual thing. So it is possible you are reacting to the aspartame, but who knows? You could stop using this stuff, just as a test, and see if things improve.

BTW, constipation is one of the symptoms of low sodium, so try to keep your salt intake up. Not only do we actually need more salt than the government recommends, but we also excrete sodium more readily once we stop clogging our systems with carbohydrate. So if you’re taking this stuff to stay regular, you might not really need it once you start keeping your salt intake up. Aim for 2-3 US teaspoons, or between 10 and 15 grams, of table salt a day (including salt already in your food).

Thanks, that’s useful to know. I have been taking it for years prescribed by the doctor. I guess it’s worth trying to stop and see what happens. Just thought taking salt with every drink would make up enough to do its thing, perhaps measuring 2 teaspoons to make sure it goes in would be useful

Some people do that, just to be sure.

The other thing salt does for me is to prevent migraines. I don’t even get auras, as long as my salt intake is sufficient.

#9

That is what I need. I have noticed my migraines have reduced in severity and they don’t last as long as before only after 2 months on keto, I am hoping for further improvements. How long since starting keto did you feel the effect on your migraines?
P.s. I might have found the answer, I have been taking lo-salt most of the time, which only contains half amount of sodium !

Gotta watch that stuff! The good news for most people is that if we keep sodium at the right level, the same inter-related mechanisms help keep potassium, magnesium, and calcium balanced. So work on your salt, and see whether you really need to supplement any of the other electrolytes. Some people will still need them, but I worry about people who might overdo something because they are supplementing unnecessarily.

Can one overdose on sodium?
I also take magnesium +b6 supplement, iron and vitamin d +k1+calcium and omega 3 I read somewhere they were essential for merino and, but there’s so much information, it’s hard to know what’s real and tested

Overdosing on sodium is possible, but I imagine anyone who tried would find it difficult. However, athletes have died from over-hydration, of all things, so anything is possible. The optimal level of sodium intake appears to be 4-6 g/day, according to the PURE study and several others. The U.S. government recommendation is woefully inadequate, and most people have trouble keeping their salt intake that low.

In case you are interested, here is a presentation by Andrew Mente, one of the principal investigators of the PURE study; he cites other studies that confirm his data during the course of the lecture. One of the points I found interesting was that the optimal range is the same for people with hypertension, but their risk curve rises much more steeply than the risk curve for the rest of us. (Of course, keto helps most people’s hypertension resolve; my blood pressure very quickly dropped into the normal range, I’m happy to say.)

This is fascinating, there are so many benefits to keto, perhaps some we don’t even know yet! Glad it’s worked for your blood pressure, I haven’t fully grasped how it affects mine yet: I am usually in the lower range, but since keto it’s been up all over the show. I tried not taking fybogel for a few days and have increased my salt I take and have actually noticed an improvement! So good bye fybogel:) and thanks for your support :+1:

I’m glad you are doing well, and I look forward to seeing how keto affects your blood pressure over the long term.
