Fry in coconut oil?

(jim Chiodo) #1

I normally fry eggs and other things in butter. This morning, I had a little leftover piece of beef I cut up to make a beef and cheese omelette. It wasn’t the best cut of beef, kinda lean and i wanted to “fat” it up so I put some coconut oil in the pan.

Not sure if I would do it again as butter gives a better taste.

Do others fry i coconut oil?

Addendum: Constipation issue is “behind” me but never did get an answer as to how much (grams) of fiber (soluble) would be appropriate per day.

Yes, I fry with coconut oil especially when making curries. My oil has more of a cocnut taste than others. Some are very refined so depending on which you have, it can vary.

I use coconut oil for eggs sometimes, though prefer grass-fed butter. I use coconut oil for popcorn…

I like Coconut for curries and (yum) coconut shrimp. Butter for eggs and fried cabbage. Olive oil and avocado to “finish” and dress vegies and salads.

I only use it when making curries as i find it overpowers most things.

Use coconut for chicken, if you dust the chicken pieces in coconut flour as well, you get a very nicely fried chicken. You can also just put the flour and oil in the oven, it browns up well that way too.

Butter for everything. I like coconut but can’t stand the taste of coconut oil for some reason.

Avocado oil has a much higher smoke point than coconut oil, and is taste neutral. But my favorite is still butter.

Seems like there is a theme here - I too only use it in strongly favoured dishes such as curries. For eggs and delicately flavoured items, always butter!

I use coconut oil but hate the taste of coconut on my foods so I have to use the refined coconut oil it has no taste. When I make popcorn I also use butter flavored coconut oil for popping. I guess you can use that to fry eggs no coconut taste too.

POPcorn on keto? How?

(Dustin Cade) #14

My kids eat popcorn, it’s their snack after school and a major vessel for them to get added fats, they use loads of butter… They are young and not really insulin resistant…

(Cristian Lopez) #15

Do you do keto for your kids or low carb high fat or neither?

(Paige) #16

Sorry mostly for my son or on the days I really want to cheat

(Paige) #17

For me I do mostly high fat and low carb for my son but no keto

Because different people have different carb tolerances. There are many folks who can maintain a state of ketosis while eating 50-100g of carbs.

You know when I eat popcorn I eat around 3 cups and and put tons of butter on it, it takes me around the next day to get back in ketosis again. I make sure that I am extremely careful to eat no carbs before and after my treat. It seems to work for me but I only do it once in a great while. Sweet potato seems to kick me out of keto faster and longer.

I cook my eggs in bacon grease
