Fringe Food and Snacks

(Stine ) #1

Im about to jump back onto the keto train and most planning is in place. Got two areas of worry though…

  1. Fringe food: the food that has some carbs like berries or nuts. They’ve previously been my downfall as the slippery slope started when reintroducing them… so not sure if I should ban them for good or try some sort of moderation system from the start. How do you guys deal?

  2. Snack: keto works wonders even without counting calories until you go snack crazy as I did, even on all fat snacks. Skipping snacks all together would be great but would be depriving myself of a lot of good keto food as I live in a non keto household and most dinners are just keto died versions of what the rest is eating. How do you guys live with your snacks?

Thank you for reading

Fringe food: I keep nuts in the basement and only bring up a small snack bag’s worth to the kitchen. That seems to work for me.

Snack: I eat jerky sticks (Nick’s Sticks or EPIC bars) as a treat. Lately, for alternative snacks, I’ve been making Shirataki noodles in the microwave with Yai’s Thai Almond Sauce and hot sauce, cilantro, and sprinkled with pork rind dust. Hits the spot, and I pretend it’s Keto Pad Thai, one of my favorite foods of all time.

Other than that, keto has helped me get out of the “snack” habit, and re-phrase it as a “hunger” habit. I.e., I’m hungry, so I’ll eat this.

Thanks  that switch from snack to hunger is a good thing ill definatelly take with me  it makes it also much easier to see it as an alternative to a traditional meal and not just an addition.

Buying in bulk and not going to the store so frequent is on the goal plan  now just to implement

My experience with alcohol was that one drink was too many, and a thousand weren’t enough. In the couple of months I’ve been low-carb, I’ve learned that’s my attitude towards sugar as well, and I’m beginning to believe it’s also my attitude towards carbs in general. So I suspect I’m not going to do well eating any amount of carbohydrate, no matter how small.

Everyone’s metabolism and everyone’s psychology are different, however; I think we probably each need to be very well-acquainted with our minds and bodies in order to make it through successfully.

Paul, for sure.

You’re right on -

Being familiar is one thing, mastering ourselves is another.

I found I couldn’t snack at all, even on nuts & seeds and cheese. However, I could add sme as part of a meal and do okay. And, it’s fine to have a “large” snack as a complete meal…

I am learning my “downfalls” and don’t care to repeat those same rabbit holes nor higher blood sugars (T2D).
