Freezing Cold during the day, Burning Hot at Night

Hi all.

I started keto on February 1st, 2019. I’ve officially lost 20 lbs…YAY!
Now, I’ve added intermittent fasting. I started on April 18th. So, only about 4 days ago. It’s going great and I love it. However, for the past 3 days, I have been freezing cold during the daytime and burning up at night when I’m trying to sleep. It’s gotten so extreme that the heat wakes me up around 2am and makes me very nauseaus. I take a walk around the house and drink some water and it cools me down enough to get back to sleep. Then, I wake up overheated and sick again around 5am and do the whole cooling down process again.
I got my intermittent fasting plan from Dr. Fung’s IDF website and it’s a personalized plan. It has me doing IF from 9PM-1PM, then eating a small meal from 1PM-5Pm, then my main meal from 5PM-9PM.
Does anyone have any suggestions for how to solve this problem or why it’s happening?

Thanks.

If you are a paying member in the IDM community, Megan has a Q&A video where she talks about getting cold while fasting. She says it’s your body still adjusting to burning fat, you are not 100% efficient at it yet. She recommends if it’s uncomfortable, to have some bone broth or tea w/a little fat (butter, coconut oil, cream, etc…) Once your body begins burning fat more efficiently, it should subside.

I began having temp issues at night when I started perimenopause, is that a possibility?

Thanks Jody. I’m going to start drinking some green tea when I’m cold and see if that helps. Won’t drinking fats break my fast?
I am 42 next month, so I suppose it is possible for me to be at that age.

Drinking tea won’t, no. If you add fat, yes it stops autophagy, but it doesn’t stop all the other good stuff

Use what you need to build your fasting muscle. Early on, I used fats, broth, teas, coffee, bubbly water. This week I’m expecting my period and today I felt like I needed some bone broth around mid-day. I haven’t had it almost 2 months, but feeling like I need it to get through my 42 hour fast today.

Possibly electrolytes. Have some bone broth. Could you call IDM and ask if you’re their customer?

The cold is easily explainable (not fat adapted yet, and body shutting down non-critical jobs), but the heat is less obvious. I would personally take in more electrolytes during the day.
